Treadmills - any recommendations??

Last fall my sister and I started walking/biking. We would walk
inside on the treadmill and used the excersize bike each for
about 40 minutes and then switch. We were going great for
about 7 months about 5 times a week and then stopped - I
can't remember why. Then recently I started walking the
dogs together about 3-4 miles about 3 times a week. I need
more excersize than this and it isn't always convenient to
walk outside. I already know what indoor bike I want, but
I am having a really hard time finding a treadmill. I really
don't want one that folds up - they all seem wobbly to me.
I would like one that inclines and that is solid, but I don't
want to spend a fortune either. I may spend a little more if
it is a really good one.
I never thought I'd say this, but I really miss the treadmill.
I loved it and really looked forward to using it. I'd still be
using it if it weren't at my sister's house!
Anyone have one they love and can you tell me about it?
I think I have looked at at least a dozen models, but it is
really hard to know how it will be at home - testing it on
the showroom floor just doesn't cut it! Sort of like picking
out a matress, you just don't test it out like you'd use it at
home.

Help please!

I have a Life Fitness T3i. christmas present last year from Mr. J. It was Consumer Report’s best buy in 2002. He did a lot of research and found consumer report dot com very helpful. Then went to stores to see what they had. We don't have a lot of choices in Alaska. Overstock.com ships them I think for only a few bucks, but not to AK.

I have heard many times on the Today show, fitness trainers, etc.. that a treadmill under 1,700 is not a very good one. It also depends on how often, and what you'll use it for.

It sounds like you've been trying some already. I think that's very important. when I was in the military, I bought one, but didn't actually try running on it, and I ended up returning it. I'm 6' so it wasn't long enough for me or wide. When I ran, it felt like I was reaching the very end of it.

I found the reviews online very helpful. Just typing treadmill reviews. Here's one by price. http://www.sport-fitness-advisor.com/tr ... views.html

Mr. J and I are always at the gym, so we trusted the brands we saw there and actually tried ourselves.

Good luck on choosing one! If you're just using one for walking, I would think it would be easier to find a cheaper one. Our was very expensive, but Mr. J got a CRAZY discount on it.
We had a ProForm...it was around the $1500 but we got it on sale. As far as why we picked it, it felt pretty good, it did fold up, it did incline by the push of a button, it had a good horse power, came with weights...and handled running and higher weight.

However I would go for a gym visit and see what they are using. Those machine move alot of people everyday and still hold up.

Our gym has two models the Precor, and Life Fitness. They are alot more expensive but are very enjoyable to use.
