That sucks... sorry to hear that....
Maybe you could dig trenches all leading away from the barn to direct runoff? You could dig maybe a few inches and line it with gravel? Maybe even put in a sump pump? |
That is a good idea ,but we tried that, put drain pipes in the front ,lined with gravel, as far as a pump the floors are cement. I thought of that but looking at the layout it would cost a lot of money.I think we will have to get a backhoe in and put large swells around the barn. Then it will be muddy and we will need to reseed etc. It is just frustrating!!!! and expensive. Having a farm, as small as ours is, is a lot of upkeep, we enjoy it for the mostpart ,last night was a bummer especially when I thought it was fixed. |
Ohhh that's terrible...
Good luck with trying to redirect a river. Maybe a little platform or a loft for the hay, too. |
So sorry about your barn flood.
Don't know your property layout, but putting a drainage runoff to a retention pond is what our neighbor put in on his property. We are on a hill. This helped us since our barn is just below his drainage system. It was amazing what a big difference it made. We lucked out because we would have had to put in a system as we had a lot if damage with the meltdowns of the blizzards one year. Good luck! |
Yikes...sorry that happened. Good luck with fixing it! |
Hi,
I can imagine the work it must have been trying to solve the problem or getting the barn clean during that time. I only had to deal with my one bundle of hay which I use for my bunny which was soaked. I can't imagine a whole barn full!! Urg!! As for the dogs walking on your newly cleaned floors..well I always know it's going to rain when I wash mine. Some day I swear my next kitchen lino will contain dog prints so if it rains you can't tell the difference. Glad everyone is okay! Marianne and the boys |
SOOOO SORRY!!! |
Wow, that is horrible!
So sorry that it happened after you thought the problem was fixed. The clean up sounded like a nightmare! I hope you can figure out a fairly inexpensive way to fix the problem. |
I like the idea of a floor with paw prints already on it. I have to put a new tile floor in, Marianne maybe you could design it and get rich!! Ron we had the hay on palletts in the barn but the dampness on the floor(it is stacked to the roof so to move it would be a pain) will mold the bottom hay. This happened the last time. Wish we had a loft, its a small barn 6 stalls. Zahra we leave near Deer Creek so there are conservation things so I don't think we could do a retention pond but diverting the rain towards the creek would be OK . Because of the manure we had to file a environmental impact type thing. Its just nice to have support. Years ago I would have never thought of posting on a forum like this. Everyone is so nice!! I guess we will have to try and move some dirt but I am too tired to think of it. People here had their homes flooded so I feel lucky it was only the barn!! |
That terrible. I'm sorry you have to deal with this. Sounds like it's going to be a lot of work for you. |
I'm so sorry. Vent away. |
That is such a pain. Thank goodness the horses are OK. Luckily none got too freaked out and hurt themselves. |
