I'd love to do a stocking and a gift or two for Barkley and am looking for ideas for super-special treats. Since we won't give him rawhide or bones or pig-ears I'm limited for options. I was thinking about getting him an everlasting treat ball. That might also keep him busy while we're eating our turkey dinner, etc. Anyone have one? Love it, hate it? So, let's share some sheepie gift ideas! |
|
Izzie loves her everlasting treat ball. We save it for rainy days when we don't want to take her on a long walk. It would work great for holiday distraction. |
Everyone here seems to LOVE the Everlasting treat balls. I know there are some threads on it. Check is out via "search". |
Since we have mud now from our melting snow, we've been using our treat balls every day to keep the dog kids busy. They love them! I have 3 and I have an audience just waiting as I fill them. |
My two wigglebums love the everlasting treat balls (or as I call them the everlasting gobstoppers). I think it's their favorite thing for when they have to be indoors on rainy days. Of course, Gen's always stealing her brother's.
They got new slickers & boots for their birthdays recently. I'm buying coats for them, just because I think they'll look adorable and I'm keeping them in a puppy cut this winter (last year they had longer hair). I am having a harder time coming up with indoor toys. They are so hard on stuffies, I hate to buy them any more. But, they do still play with the remants of their Hide-a-Squirrel. So...who knows. I'd like to hear ideas for indoor toys, too. But, for outdoor toys, we've got a great frisbee that has a squeeker in the middle - BIG HIT -and a good ball that doesn't deflate & has a rope through it. There's a flying squirrel made of canvas that's pretty durable and another frisbee type toy called "chuck a duck" . Those are the current favs. |
A new stuffy is Mollys gift
And a bone |
Oh yeah...I just remembered a favorite indoor toy to keep them busy. It's a ball that has a hole in it where you put treats or kibble. They roll the ball around and it randomly dispenses food. Genevieve really likes it. Beau's a bit too lazy to mess with it. He prefers a nylabone. |
I have no idea for the girls yet, so be interesting to see what ideas people post here, might give me something to think of for them for christmas.
I know one thing, doggie biscuits, that is a must for christmas morning. |
Walter is getting a backpack |
Our pet store has multiple aisles of pet toys, treats and/or gifts. Our fur folks love stuffed toys with or without squeekers (I prefer without, naturally). I keep a needle and thread handy as Henry sometimes plays a little rough. A favorite stuffed toy is anything that has a large rope through the middle of it so two can play 'tug' with the toy in between the two fuzzbutts.
Samantha, being the petite little girl, loves tennis balls - especially when I rub rosemary, thyme or some other spice on the ball. Sort of like a cat with catnip. She will play with the ball for literally hours, tossing it over her head and then 'stalking' it. A great rainy day activity for her. Becket, on the other hand, does not like toys of any kind and does not really care for cookies, treats or other goodies. He likes his little 'security' blanket which he carries with him everywhere he goes. |
Our soon-to-be sheepie will get a new family for Christmas - us! Well, about a week after Christmas but still...lol
Probably not what you were looking for though Brees will get some chew toys, balls since she loves fetch, and I'm thinking that frisbee too. I'll probably pick up some chew toys for the sheepie while I'm at it, and the little one will just have a late Christmas. |
I am making new beds for both boys. My sister just got a new
sofa and I stole the cushions before they too the old one away. They are very clean, so I just took off the old outer covers. I have also been thinking about what kind of bones I can give to all my dog friends. Last year we gave some nice big stockings filled with all kinds of chewy treats. We had some stomach issues after just a little of those though, so I am looking for something else. I am leaning toward some homemade cookies/bones for the dogs this year. I am also hoping to get both dogs a backpack. While we have been walking them much more and taking them places Vic thinks (and I would agree) that they should be schlepping their own stuff. I just wish I could find one for less than they are asking at out new petsmart! Way too much. Maybe I will look at making some of those myself as well. Anything to keep busy this year. Shellie |

[/quote]What is an everlasting treat ball Quote: i am not sure but it sounds great. as for a gift olive is getting a rain coat and hat i saw on a like through this forum. o another note know raw hid bones are nono's but why pig ears? o and i gave olive a squeeker toy that i thought she would eat in onq day bhecause it was just rubber, but she loves and is not as rough with it so i is lasting |
Why no pig ears?
Well, if there are dangers with rawhide choking/lodging I figure pig ears are no different. There have also been a number of cases of people getting Salmonella poisoning from handling their dog's pig ears - that can't be healthy for the dog. I have heard of cases where dogs have gotten very sick and even died from the bacteria in pigs ears. They aren't cooked, they're just smoked so that may be why there's the risk of bacteria/contamination. I figure if there's a risk, why bother taking it. Barkley is definitely getting an everlasting treat ball. So is his aunt Gracie (my parents' Goldendoodle) - so that will keep them both occupied on Christmas day! |
That's cute Darcy, you must have to stock up.
This is still my dog's favorite thing. You can stuff them with anything, even left over turkey from dinner, freeze it let them be busy for along time. I have two sizes, small and larger...it also makes for a good fetch toy too. http://shopping.msn.com/prices/shp/?itemId=21624801 I got mine from PetsMart. http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_ ... 26218&Ne=2 |

Here ya go! http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=7490 |
I'll try to get them a small jolly ball. They are almost indestructible and lots of for our guys. |
Either nylabone or dentabone makes a bone that disolves when they eat it but it's good for their teeth and gums and comes in cheese, bacon or carrot flavor. My dogs love those.
How do you feel about granulated raw hide sticks. They break down also. Ours also like the stuffed toys. And their Mom likes to get them a new collar, leash or bed depending on what they need. |
I finished the dog beds today. Yay for me!
I covered them with a really nice moss green upholstery fabric. Zeke already picked his! He was hogging it before I even had the second one done. One present down.... Shellie |
Harry is getting an agility tunnel for Christmas. Since they are so expensive he will only get agility equipment for birthday or Christmas.
Here are a couple of ideas for dogs that like squeaky toys. When Mopsy got older and her hips were going and her eyesight too she LOVED squeaky toys because her ears stilled worked fine. She liked to listen to the noise and she would bite down and then release slowly to get maximum squeaky sound. JW Pet Cuz Hard Rubber Squeaky Dog Toys They are made of a very sturdy rubber so they survive the toughest chewers and best of all they come in an angel and a devil version to fit your dog's personality. http://www.petco.com/Shop/petco_Product ... 12355.aspx Squeaky Mat This looks like a little quilt about a 12" square that has a squeaker in each of the 16 squares. Harry loves this because he tosses it in the air and then pounces on it. Then he shakes the heck out of it. I like it because there are enough squeakers in it to ensure that it still squeaks. http://www.jbpet.com/Shopping/product.a ... me=NewToys I hope my links worked. |
For those sheepies that already have the everlasting treat ball you might want to try this toy:
http://www.aboutdogtraining.com/panel.php?14 the Everlasting Fun Ball! Made by the same company, it's a round green ball that you fill with treats. Bailey got this one as a gift and he loves it even more than the treat ball. I don't recommend the treats that supposedly go with it (every flavored treats) because they're small and fall right out without effort. I bought some treats that were a little larger and more time consuming. Bailey is getting a stuffy called Big Mean Kitty. And I'm sure he'll get some treats too. I really wanted a Hilary Clinton stuffy that I had seen in a catalog, but of course it's sold out LOL! |
SheepieMommy, that squeaky quilt looks like fun. Foz loves his squeaky balls. Get your mind out of the gutter, not those balls
I recently bought him a new red raincoat which matches Annie's. I'm sure the two of them are just ecstatic I've bought so much for both of them this year. I'm sure Grandma will get them something. This is the second year that I'm just not into buying presents...for anyone. |
