8O Wow! Great link!!!

Looks like they have all the old favorites!

Its pouring rain here, so I was checking out

http://www.cranberrysweets.com/

and http://www.harborsweets.com/

Nothing like a rainy day for candy shopping. 8)
You totally speak my language! I'm thinking about buying some more peanut brittle from that first website you posted!
lol...i had to laugh out loud when i scrolled down and saw whistle sticks...i loved those, but i remember after a few licks and whistling, how drool would roll down my hand....gross!

Youre giving me a stomach ache thinking of all that candy...youre not going to eat all of this are you??????

and dont bother asking the Canadians about Smarties....its a long story, but they call them different...
I'm curious, what are they called in Canada? :D

Although I picked some of my favorites, none of it is for me. It's a stocking stuffer!

I remember the drool from the whistles. They were great though!

I believe M&Ms are called Smarties in Canada.

Is a lot of that candy not available by you? No wonder Michigan is so fat-- I think we stock most of it. 8O I do love the Sky Bar and that's one that we don't get. I'm also very intrigued by this Curly Wurly.
I can't think of any stores that sell the rare candy here. I just started browsing sites that came up when I entered "free shipping APO" (mr. j's address).

There's the candy store at the mall, but these are individually packed. Plus, I only needed a little bit of each. If I would have bought each item in bulk, I would have eaten everything I didn't send off!!! I mean... chocolate cigarettes!!! Okay, I may be the only one obsessed with them. I think they're cool. I was forbidden to "pretend like I was smoking" when I was offered them as a kid. ...or I wasn't allowed to accept it at all. 8O
this is so awesome, thank you! im going to get some for my dad, he shares my love of candy
My mouth totally started watering when I read "Sour Patch Kids". I never REALLY liked them, but would torture myself with the weirdness in my mouth :D

The first site is too overwhelming, so I called their
800 # for a catalog .

The second catalog I have memorized
They were a drive from where I went to school, but
a sweet destination.

We lived on Sweet Sloops !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rockets..... because they have their own candy called Smarties which are like M & M's.
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smarties_%28Ce_De_Candy%29
Zahra,

I don't know your age, but when I was a small child, there was a candy store, I think it was in Revere, where they had a door that was the right size for just a kid to go in....

I need to call and ask my dad about where it was and if he recalls the name.

Does this ring a bell?

:? How did I miss that candy store?

Sorry Ron.
Both my husband and I struck out on this question.
(He's from Boston, and I lived in Danvers)

We are old enough to remember ---

Arnie "Woo Woo" Ginsburg's drive in and
Jordan Marsh Muffins

Enough said :D
OMG, here we go again... thanks a lot Darcy... LOL

Ok folks... Smarties are NOT like M&M's!!!!!!!

What you call Smarties, here we call Rockets. Smarties are their own candy. LOL They're awesome, and NOT M&M's. M&M's suck. (IMO) 8O
Am I understanding this correctly? Does these mean that you American folks don't have the chocolate covered Smarties?

So you really don't get the phrase "when you eat your Smarties do you eat the red ones last?" ?

Who woulda thunk?

And although I do enjoy M & M's, not the same way as I LOVE Smarties...The Smarties only come filled with chocolate...no peanut option or anything like that...Just chocolate...and the candy coating is extremely thin so you can suck on them for a bit and it starts to melt. And if you have them in your hand for more than 20 seconds the color comes off, the coating melts and then you have choclate all over your hand.

M & M's take the fun out of this adventure, but are still good...

As for the chocolate cigarettes....yes, I liked those, too, and the candy ones and the bubble-gum ones. I didn't see them on the list. Maybe they are still around?
The chocolate is different too. I think the chocolate in M&M's tastes like bad hot chocolate powder.
Smarties are awesome...
We have a wonderful ice cream parlor in Hastings which has many of those old time candies. The place is just a treasure! Home made ice cream too. All they're missing is the soda fountain! I like going and having lunch, ice cream, and then buying an old time candy to go :) I'm not sure about theose chocolate smarties though... 8O
Yes, I love that place! I've gotten some great candy to give out for Halloween for many years.
I've bought Smarties around here. Maybe MN is close enough to Canada?! We even use Canadian coins like USA ones- they just don't work in vending machines. Stores accept them equally around here :D .

I like Smarties - they do have a different taste than M&M's, but I like both. The Smarties taste sweeter/smoother to me.
Do they include a GREAT BIG tube of toothpaste with every order 8O
these are smarties

okay so which came first....smarties or m & m's????? and which came first English smarties or American smarties???
Yep, went through this whole Smarties/Rockets discussion with my roomie in NYC. Then I got Craig to bring me Smarties and Ketchup Chips - both of which my roommate loved. Yes, Ketchup flavoured potato chips (my favourite flavour) are not available in the US.

Smarties are like M&M's except milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate (at least, that's how it tastes). We have both here. Smarties ice cream and smarties blizzards from Dairy Queen are the best!

Rockets in Canada are the exact same thing as the candy called Smarties in the US. Hardened/pressed sugar things that come in a roll in clear plastic.

I'm guessing that Canadian Smarties were around before American smarties.... otherwise wouldn't they be called smarties in canada instead of rockets?
Okay I have too much time on my hands today. Found this in an article on the web:

Smarties, rather than being the "eat the red ones last" candy as it is in Canada, are literally the same candy as Rockets. Ce De Candy could not copyright the name in Canada because of Nestl駳 chocolate candies of the same name, which were launched in the UK by Nestl頡s Chocolate Beans in 1937, and were renamed and packaged as Smarties one year later according to their Web site. The chocolate candy came to Canada shortly afterwards. Nestl頭anaged to register the name Smarties in Canada before Ce De Candy Inc. could, but are not sold in the U.S. because Ce De registered the name there before Nestl鮠As a result, Canada's Smarties are candy-coated, bite-sized chocolates instead of what we know as Rockets.

I can't believe we don't share the same Smarties...that's just the craziest thing....

As a kid, and it wasn't in the list was a Caramel taffy covered in chocolate, about 12 inches or more...it was called a WigWam. That was my favorite.
Smarties here before M&M's hit the scene.

You can't go past a Cadbury "FLAKE" Drool, they melt in your mouth 8)

WigWam - They're three hands high!

WigWam...I totally forgot about that! :clappurple: And I too prefer Smarties over M&M's.

Rockets are what many people give out at Halloween. Gosh my teeth are burning just thinking about the candy!

Great links to the candy websites, I'll check them out.

peg
I can't wait to check out the websites. Like Jill mentioned in a much earlier post, we can get alot of different stuff like that here in michigan. What I miss is the Marathon bar. I can remember dad would bring them home every Friday when he went grocery shopping and then you put them in the freezer. YUM YUM

Lisa and Frankie
I've found what I loved as a kid tastes different today. Sometimes memories are best left alone. Also kids have more tastebuds than adults........I'm sure I'm missing a few taste sensations I once felt.
I thought Smarties were those gross little muti-colored sour things that I hated to get in my pumpkin at Halloween. I have no idea what the other Smarties are....
They weren't really sour, just fruity pastey flavored. My father was a candy rep and that was one of his lines. Of all he sold, I think KitKat was my favorite followed up by pecan Chunkeys. Regualr Chunkeys were OK, the raisin always seemed weird, but oh those pecans....yum. When he was out of town, Oh Boy, I got to have all he didn't sell! Even my noncandy mother enjoyed Brach's choco covered nuts......I later learned, just for the nuts :cow: Why didn't she just by plain nuts?
^^^ My jaws ache just thinking about smarties. Are you sure they aren't sour??? I always thought that is how they got their name-- because it made your mouth "smart" when you ate them.
sour, maybe, but not like "sours" today. I never thought them much a treat. Could be the formula has changed to reflect today's kids' taste buds and love of sour. You aren't thinking ....oh what were they, in a foil bag and really sour......Sour Tarts!
