It's not so foreign to me.. it's a rope tuggie that one of the dogs had at the park Tuesday night...another dog ripped it to pieces and I thought that I had picked up all the pieces, but I guess not. He started throwing up last night and I just knew that he had eaten something that wasn't passing.. that is the only time he thows up. I took him to the vet this morning, we did xrays that showed an object in his stomach, they gave him a barium (spelling) and after doing more xray, the barium wasn't passing through his tummy, so surgery it is.... This the third time he has had a surgery to remove a foreign body. I feel just awful, should of got that muzzle like I said I would after the second surgery. He won't be home until Monday. My house is empty without my Biggie Fries. Please send good thoughts to Dudley... |
|
Oh no! I will be thinking of you all weekend! Poor Dud! Hope the surgery is uneventful. . . I understand not having gotten the muzzle. It would not have occurred to me that a chewed up and torn apart rope toy would cause an obstruction. Please let us know whenever you find out that the surgery is completed. Maybe this is a good time for a long outing with Murphy so you are not home missing Dudley the whole time. |
Awwww poor lovey Duds I am soo sorry for you...the big drooley guy is in our thoughts tonight...give Murphy extra hugs and kisses!! |
OMG Hope he heals soon! |
Poor Dudley! I hope he gets better soon. :hearts: Please keep us updated. |
I've been thinking of you and Dudley all day, and will continue to keep him in my thoughts. Best wishes for a fast and uneventful recovery Duds! |
Aww, poor Dudley!! I hope everything goes smoothly and he's back to his old self in no time! He's such a beautiful boy! My second favorite breed, next to OES. |
Oooohhhh nooooooo..... can they do this with an endoscope or is it abdominal surgery? |
Poooor Duds and poor Brenda. It's awful having a sick baby. I'm so sorry he's having to go through this again. I would not have thought that a torn apart rope toy would be a problem either. In fact, I can think of a piece I saw in my yard just last night and neglected to pick up.
I do hope the surgery is without complications and that he'll be back to normal soon. |
I hope Dudley does well with his surgery! How stressful for all of you. Big hugs from us. |
That is my greatest fear having London that eats everything she isn't suppose to.
Here's hoping all goes well. |
It's 8:31 pm and I still haven't heard anything.... starting to get frantic... |
I'd call them... *keeping fingers crossed* |
i did.. the office is closed... here's hoping they are still there, but the office is closed.. |
I'd drive there or call the vet at home... but that's just me... |
Poor guy and poor you. I hope he has a speedy recovery. It really makes you wonder what they find so delicious about that kind of stuff in the first place. I hope you hear from the vet soon. |
Get well soon to Duds, Think happy thoughts |
Darn straight call the vet at home. I cannot imagine they haven't called you before going home.
I hope everything goes well. |
I can't imagine what you're going through. I know I wouldn't be able to sleep not knowing how my dog was doing. I'm sure things went well if no one called you. I know that's easier for me to say and believe when it's not my dog. |
Awww poor dudley, hope all goes well and he is back home soon. Thinking of you both |
The vet called last night about 9:30, they had just gotten out of surgery, it didn't go as well as they expected.
There was a lot more damage to his stomach and intestines then they anticipated. They are giving him a 50/50 chance of recovery. Their worry now is that his bowels are going to shut down due to the damage of the rope toy (which was shredded in strands). I was pretty distraught when she was explaining to me what they did, I didn't understand alot of it or retain it, but I think she said they had to remove/repair about 3 feet. I'm guessing that doesn't leave much more due to his previous 2 surgeries and she said there was a lot of scar tissue from before. She did say that if I hadn't brought him in yesterday, he would not survived the night. He was awake and alert when they called.. groggey, but awake. She said the next 5 days are cruitial, if his bowls are going to give out it would be in that timeframe... It is a holiday here today, so I probably won't hear anything from them unless it's bad news. Otherwise he may come home on Sunday. |
Oh, Brenda!
I am catching up here, visiting family in Montreal. I am going to St. Anne des Beaupres this afternooon, and a special prayer for Dudley will be said. I will light a candle for him, too. Prayers and hugs!!!!!! |
Best wishes for Dudley and a speedy recovery. |
Brenda....Ill be saying prayers all day for you and the Dud man!! Deep breaths sweetie and positive thoughts ONLY!

C'mon Dudley, FIGHT! |
Oh my gosh! POOOOOOOOR DUDLEY
Please pull through!!!! My fingers are crossed for you and hugs for mommy!!! |
I'm so sorry to hear that news. You guys will be in all of our thoughts today. |
Oh no! I'll be thinking of you and Duds... |
I am praying for Dudley's quick and full recovery. You are in my prayers also. Please keep us posted we really care. |
I am sorry that it's worse than you originally thought. I'll say a prayer for Dudley and for you. |
I'm sorry it didn't go as well as you had hoped... still, he has made it through surgery, he's a fighter!
I hope his recovery goes better. |
OMG I AM SO SORRY
He loves you so much I know he will fight to be with you no matter how rough it may seem! All of our thoughts and prayers are supporting you and Dudley right now. He's such a beautiful guy and so special, I just know he'll be OK. I'm so sorry this is happening. On a side note, we recently found out that when Hannah had pancreatitus most dogs die from the severity that she had it and she made it, so that's another reason I know he will give it all he's got to stay with you. Hannah's sending him some of that special fighting & recovering energy. |
Big thanks to everyone for the support and prayers!!!
My girlfriends have been here ALL day with me, bringing food and Tim's, every hour that the phone didn't ring, we breathed a little sigh of relief. No news is good news!!! I don't think he will be coming home tomorrow as orginally thought, but maybe they may let me go and see him....just wondering if that is a good idea. Again, thanks for all your support. |

You should definitely go see him if they'll let you. I couldn't see Hannah, she was in the "hospital" 4 days and I had jury duty but the vet and the staff gave her above and beyond type of attention because I couldn't get there. At first I was worried she'd give up thinking I had abandoned her but it ended up OK. So if you can't get there I'm sure he'll still be fine. But probably better if he sees you. |
Oh my - I missed the beginning of this. Oh your poor guy - this must be torture for you. I'm glad you have a big support system at home and here. We're pulling for you both . . . |
This was not the update I was hoping for. I will be thinking of you both. I really hope Dudley can make it through. I know you will be strong for him. I think visiting him is a good idea. I don't think he will feel abandoned if you don't, but I just think the strong love vibes will be beneficial to his recovery. Sweet Dudley! I'm glad your friends are there to help you get through this. |
Brenda,
I am so sorry to hear about what's going on with Dudley. I am praying for a quick and uneventful recovery. |
DUDLEY IS HOME
Just picked him up..he is nice and lively, came bounding down the hall to me.. hard to believe that he just had majory surgery. After getting him home the first thing he did was have a poop and a pee in his own yard..Yeah!!! His plumbing still works. He has 35 staples in his belly, needs to stay quiet for the next few weeks, he is on his love seat having a snooze right now. I have no more vacation time left so between my friends and family, they are going to each pick a day for the next week and come stay with him through the day. It's so great to have him home.. Dudley says Thanks Everyone!!! |
WOOHOO! Good Boy Dudley! |
GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep getting better big boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :go: |
Yay Duds!! I'm so glad he's home, great news! |
That is great news that he pulled through ok. Hope all still goes well with him. |
WONDERFUL!!! I went to bed thinking about this since I can see it happening to many of our own dogs. I'm so glad he's back and able to go to the bathroom. |
Yay Dudley!!!
What a relief. I am so glad he is OK. |
I'm really glad to hear that he came through okay! |
WOO HOO Wonderful news, so glad Dudley is home and hope he gets stronger and better each day.
Gosh he is a handsome big boy, no more eating things you shouldn't Dudley, think you scared everyone enough |
Poor lovey Duds, I am soo sorry for you
I'm really glad to hear that he came through okay! |
I am so glad that he's home and on the mend. I know you must be very relieved. (I think we all are!) |
Yay Dudley!!!! |
I am soooo happy for you! You went from hoping you could see him to having him home with you - yipppeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Hooray for Dudley! That's amazingly good news! I'm so happy that he can continue his recovery from home. |
Panda sends all of her wettest and slobberiest kisses to dudley!! |
Great news, Brenda!
Now make sure he stays quiet, so he can mend..... How wonderful it must be to have him HOME!!! |
Oh, that's just the BEST news ever!! I'm sure you're so relieved that he's home, and to see him pee and poop had to be one of the best things you've ever witnessed!!
Dudley is just such a beautiful boy. |
Not only is he a beautiful boy, he's also a fighter! Good boy Duds.
Funny about the peeing and pooping at home........same around here. No matter the miles traveled, "there's no place like home." |
Thank God!! I am breathing a huge sigh of relief!! I was holding my breath as I caught up on the thread and didn't realize it until I finally exhaled when I saw that he is okay!!
Hurray Dudley!! How sweet for your family and friends to support you in this very practical way by taking a day off to stay with him this week. |
So glad Dudley is fine. The same thing happened to the neighbors Great Dane. I threw every rope toy out of my house after this fright. People should be informed on what could happen with them |
Dudley is doing extremely well with his recovery. His appetite is returning, he is on the Hills Science Diet, ID for the next week, he has been pooping.. which is a hugh relief to me!!! as there was so much damage to his small bowels. His incision looks good, he hasn't been licking (fingers crossed).
The vet said I should be taking him on short walks, so I took him for a 10 minute walk this morning, he was pretty tired when we got home.. went right up on his loveseat and promptly fell asleep. Murphy has been very good in all of this.. ususally, he will rough-house with Dudley.. try to take him down by the feet..but he knows he's recovering and just wants to lay by him and lick his face. I love my Half-Sheepie.. he is such a good boy!!! Saturday, I am going to take Dudley to be fitted with a Basket Muzzle..something I should of done the second time this happened... My Biggie Fries is home...what could be better than that!!!! |
OH BRENDA!!!!!!!! I missed this post entirely!!!!!!! Poor Dud, POOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so glad the news is good and that he is recovering, I hope he continues to do well and THAT YOU RECOVER AL WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Yay Dudley! He's a fighter!
What wonderful friends/family you have that they're taking turns taking time off work to stay home with Dudley. What is a basket muzzle and when/where will Dudley wear it? |
Wow, I am just catching up from the weekend. I'm so sorry Dudley had to go through all of that! But I am ecstatic to hear how well he is doing!
Callie and I send hugs and sheepie kisses for a speedy recovery. |
I am just now seeing this after being out all weekend. I am so glad for you that Dudley is okay. Keep pampering your little patient. That is so nice of your friends to keep watch. |
"Theme from Rocky playing"............
I knew Dudley would beat this thing. |
OH my I just read this today! Oh my nerves. Thank goodness!! |
Sheepie Heaven wrote: What is a basket muzzle and when/where will Dudley wear it?
A basket muzzle fits over their snout.. he will still be able to drink and pant, but not open his mouth to eat anything. https://www.businessvision.net/edge/Pro ... -10&Rank=1 He will be wearing this when we go to the doggie park and when he is off leash, if I EVER let him off leash AGAIN...but mostly when we are at the dog park, inside the enclosure, that way he can roam off leash, but not eat left behnd dog toys..... We will affectionly call him "Hannibal Lector" when he has it on... Helllllllllllo Clarice......... |
WE MUST see pictures!!!!! |
**snort*** okay that brought the first smile of the morning..... |
