I've ruined a couple with spilt coffee a few times. This time I thought I was smart and placed my cup up high on a shelf...oh oh..foster cat decides to jump and noooooo splat goes the coffee cup. Murhy's Law..it falls onto the keyboard which rendered it useless. Going to my moms birthday party tonight I called a few people that would be there and asked if they had an extra keyboard. Five showed up with extra ones! So now I'm good for five more accidents as I have five keyboards!!! Pssss I know I shouldn't drink coffee besides my computer..but old habits are hard to die. Wow, that's bad luck. I just replaced our keyboard for the 1st time a couple months ago. The old one still worked, I was just sick of it. The mouse roller made this loud clicking noise too - drove me crazy. So I got one with a cordless keyboard and mouse set. i can't remember the name - I'm at work now. The old ones were about 6 yrs old. I saved them for an emergency - hope I don't need them soon!! |
Marianne, don't feel bad........... I go through keybords like potato chips!!!!!!!!!! Doug gets so mad at me, he buys the REALLY cheap ones now because he knows it's only a matter of time before I dump coffee on it. |
I can't count the number of times this board has seen me type lfseu sijfsl seiu sjfl alshjlsd .........because I spilled something on it. I went through 3 last year alone, so I understand! |
I've spilled tons of stuff on my keyboards, but it's never actually ruined one yet. LOL I have a couple extra around the house anyway though, from old computers, and a new one that I odered an extra of when I bought my new computer, so I guess I'm all set if I do ruin one. LOL |
OK, I'm home now. It's Logitech. They came as a set for $35. I never knew they were so cheap! I would have traded up a lond time ago ! |
Hi,
I was happy to hear there are other klutz's out there like myself!!! I feel the bonding!! Here's a secret too..keyboards are super cheap at second hand stores..a mere 99 cents up to 3.50. Sometimes I've gone that route and been pretty lucky as they have all worked. Marianne and the boys |
Or--you could shop online and find a vinyl keyboard cover to protect your keyboard from such hazards. I work in a lab and we need to keep our keyboards protected from all sorts of stuff. The covers do make it a little more difficult to type, but it seems like much less a hassel than having to look for a new keyboard and hope it works without any gltitches. |
I haven't had to replace mine yet but, I'm always spilling something on it. The one for our old computer I did have to take apart a couple of times and clean the coffee out.
My son spilled coke on his laptop keyboard, big expense to replace. |
You make me laugh Marianne, you need to take out shares in a company that sells Keyboards!!!!
Boy never heard of one person that goes through them on a regular basis, thank goodness now for all the spares. |
That's pretty funny Marianne! Here's a piece of advice - Don't get a laptop!
Be thankful that you can just replace your keyboard when you have a spill. When I was in college, my roommate spilled her drink on my laptop keyboard and that was the end of it. It couldn't even be fixed by the manufacturer, so I had to get an entirely new computer. Since then, I have been SUPER paranoid about drinks around computers. |
Yeah... don't get a laptop.
There's a new keyboard that's completely waterproof. If it gets dirty you can just dunk it under soapy water and wash it! I saw it on Ellen a couple months back. |
I've never replaced a keyboard or a laptop - and I'm surgically connected to mine all day, every day. When I'm working from home I have two computers going at a time.
However, I do have a suggestion - TRAVEL MUG. Get one of those no-spill mugs. Way cheaper than replacing the keyboard. |
No way am I ever getting a laptop..I'm far too clumsy!!
I'm too cheap to buy a waterproof one and probably would forget to take a travel mug in my computer room...so alas I'm just going to purchase those nifty 99 cent keyboards from second hand shops! Marianne PS so glad to hear others out there are klutzy like me! |
Marianne,
I am so happy to hear that you now have back ups keyboards. Now you'll know when your down to one to start looking for more. I am the biggest klutz.... I trip over my own feet about 3 to 4 times a day. |
