Quote: Dear Petfinder.com members, Later today we will be making a BIG announcement and we wanted to make sure that you, our family, heard it from us first. We are proud to have spent 10 years working with you to facilitate over 10 million pet adoptions. Together we have made great strides towards our goal of ending the euthanasia of adoptable pets. We are delighted to share with you, that in order to help us grow and continue to help even more pets, Petfinder.com is being adopted by the Animal Planet family. By acquiring Petfinder.com, Animal Planet and Discovery Communications, Inc. will allow your pets to muster the power of the leading global real-world media and entertainment company. By joining the Animal Planet family, we will greatly further our mission in ways never before dreamed of. Our mission at Petfinder.com, to ensure that no adoptable pet is euthanized for lack of a home, remains the same. Our dedicated staff, with whom you have worked over the years, will continue to support you; we continue to be overwhelmed with respect for the life-saving work that you do. Now we will be able to increase the support and the exposure that your pets so much deserve. As we make this exciting announcement to the world tomorrow, we want you to share our pride in the great things we have accomplished and our anticipation of all the great things to come. Together we have changed the world – and together we will continue to do so. --Betsy and Jared |

Elissa, what exactly is petfinder? Is it only rescue dogs? |
It has all sorts of recue animals. Dogs, cats, horses, small animals. A really nice source for local adoption agencies to get their animals noticed. I'm glad to hear that they have a powerful new parent company. |
