Wow, wouldnt that be totally cool???? Vote, Birthday AND a million dollars.....November 7th is looking better all the time |
I think just the question is on the ballot, It hasn't been approved yet. At least that is my take on that story.
Do we really want everybody to vote? Shouldn't we only want people who are interested enough to study and understand the issues to vote? Who do we want running our country, smart people interested in the issues, or people interested only in getting paid to vote? |
awwww Ron, youre taking all of the fun out of my birthday....stop it.....and let me dream of turning 39 gracefully, hoping I voted correctly, AND possibly winning a million dollars....
thats a lot of shoes baby, a LOT of shoes |
Since we KNOW Darcy will be an informed and educated voter I HOPE SHE WINS!!!
Personally I've gotten more involved in this election than ANY election in my adult life. It seems like all of a sudden there are so many issues of life changing inportance that I'm making myself CRAZY reading and watching TV!!! |

Show us the money |
Here's the scoop on AZ Proposition 200 (below). You'd think it was too far fetched to be true. Personally I voted against it - it doesn't incent people to become educated voters, just to turn in a ballot, and that scares me. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Proposition 200 would establish a $1,000,000 prize to be awarded to a randomly selected person who voted in the primary or general election. Anyone who voted in the primary or general election would be automatically entered in the drawing for the prize money, and if a person voted in both the primary and the general election, that person's name would be entered twice in the drawing. Proposition 200 would provide money for the cash prize by transferring unclaimed lottery winnings into a separate Voter Reward Fund, to be overseen by the Arizona State Lottery Commission. Money would be awarded every two years, after each statewide general election is held. If there is sufficient money, the commission could establish additional prizes for the drawings. |

If Daarcy wins I think she should host a OES.org sheepie gathering and send a private plane around to pick everyone up. |

Who do we want running our country, smart people interested in the issues, or people interested only in getting paid to vote? I would only want people interested enough to study the issues and pay attention to the candidates to vote. I thought the million was a good gimick at first, until I saw your post. Yes, more people should vote, but if they don't understand what they are doing that's like asking for the trained monkey to run the show. |
As it is now, it's senior citizens making most of the decisions anyway, since they're the ones that vote. I think it's putting an awful lot of faith that the other people voting are actually aware of and have researched the issues. I think it's a pretty small percentage of people that you could actually consider an "educated" voter. |
Hey, I have an idea--
Let's put a measure on the ballot that if you vote, your name goes into a lottery and if you are selected, any inheritance taxes on estates over $500,000 are eliminated. But let's be honest and call this for what it is; an attempt to get rich people to vote. Or how about if you are selected, your property taxes will be waived!?! You could give 200 (or more!) 100% property tax abatements away instead of just 1 million dollar prize! I wonder what party will get the most votes from these groups? I wonder which party would get the most votes from people drawn to voting by a lottery prize? |
zahra wrote: Ron wrote: or people interested only in getting paid to vote? Show us the money This reminds me of the phone company I have. It's a co-op that's grown into a decent sized company with over 10,000 + members now. A few years ago, during a heated debate over how the company's board of director's were operating the company, they (the current board) decided to give $50 to each member (name on bill) that came to the meeting. You had to bring the card they'd sent you in the mail to collect that, and to be in the drawing for the additional prizes that night. Yeah! You guessed it. I think just about every member tried to get there. The meeting was to be held in the same location as always. The school's fire code would only allow less than 1000 in at any given time. DUH! Wonder why everyone wanted a new Pres. on the board. I think all 10,000 members decided to show up! We left early to get a seat, but when we got there, the cops were out on the road directing taffic, NOT letting ANYONE turn in the direction of the school. There were so many cars lined up in town that all the side streets were blocked and cars were even lined up out on Interstate 70!!! It was a very dangerous situation. The fire department and police department's would have found it almost impossible to respond to any calls! A lot of people got their money, but most did not (including me) UNTIL we contacted the Utility Reg. Dept. about the situation. They finally gave the rest of us a $50 credit on our bills. It wasn't the money I was fighting for, it was the principle. There were a lot of people that tried to get in there, they just figured they'd close the doors when the building was full and that'd be it. NOOOOO way! The members next complaint was that it was OUR money they were passing out. If we can afford that, then lower our monthly bills! Needless to say, they were voted OUT! Later, some were even taken to court. Unlce Sam, WHO is going to pay for this lucky person's prize? A million dollars is a lot of OUR money being wasted again. YES, it would be nice, but there are too many programs out there that could be funded with that. I say get candidates in the running that are worthy of the office's and people WILL vote to get the others out! We NEED someone to vote for! |
mouthypf wrote: Unlce Sam, WHO is going to pay for this lucky person's prize? ! Unclaimed lottery winnings - see my post above. However, you make a good point - that money could be used for something more important, like education. mouthypf wrote: I say get candidates in the running that are worthy of the office's and people WILL vote to get the others out! I agree! |
