need new home for one of mine

Hi all-as you are all aware I have seven sheepdogs. Well four are male and 3 female. I need to find a home for one. His name is Brudy Blue Eyes and he doesn't get along with the other dogs. He needs to be rescued as the only dog or as the only outside dog. If anyone is interested let me know. I can't handle the fighting anymore but I can't dump him at a shelter either. I am about rescuing dogs.

Please contact me through the forum, either using the PM system or by sending me an email.

So sorry you're going through this. :( :( :( :(

Let me know if oes.org or I can help in any way.
So sorry you have to give him up... I hope you find a good home for him soon so you can restore peace to your furfamily, and he can be the center of attention.
Sorry to hear that. We are potentially looking for a sheepie for my mom-in-law. I sent you a more detailed PM. Look forward to hearing from you.

Just an update...we have a trainer working with us and so far Brudy is doing very well here at home.
Well now, THAT is a fast turnaround... I hope it holds!

Can you give us an idea of what the trainer is doing, or what approach he/she is taking?
well we will see over time. keeping my fingers crossed though.
One of the main things we are working on is that im short and seen as a playmate to him instead of authority. I now walk out with a walking stick and when he jumps on me I tap him on the behind (gentle) and say get down and he seems to listen, not knowing what my stick is I guess. And when we play he has been wonderful too. When i see them fight I tap both dogs and I do mean tap and he is either offended or scared or who knows but it works. He also has shown me ways to pet him and pull his ears while petting him and reward good behavior for not snapping back. It will be a long process but I am putting up in a seperate kennel too when he gets crabby or I leave. Im not at the point where I trust him yet.
Thank you for sharing.

I cannot understand where all these so-called "trainers" are getting this stuff. Now we are resorting to hitting dogs? And yes, a tap is a strike.

Behavior modification takes months, sometimes years. Keeping him separate and punishing him for his actions by scaring or hurting him is going to make things worse. It may "appear" to do the trick immediately, but it does not address the unlying issues. It only allows you to manage him, but the state of mind is still there...underneath....

I would get another trainer....actually, it is not a trainer you need but an animal behaviorist...who can explain to you what you need to do , and why. And also the impact it will have on Brodie, and again, why.

I am so sorry you are having problems with him, and that he does not appear to be fitting well into the group. He sounds like a lot of commotion and other dogs does cause him a lot of anxiety. That needs to be reduced, before he can be happy.
He is a great trainer and nobody is hitting anybody. i don't hit my dogs and his name IS Brudy...
perhaps the real issue should be with the homes that did the damage not the one that loves him and is trying different techniques. we are all here for the same reason...our love of dogs...i believe ron was asking me what was working with him. not all animals are alike. it is fine to have an opinion and sharing it is a wonderful option we have here but please don't try a lecture to someone trying to keep peace and trying to keep her dog alive when NOBODY else wanted him. If I tapped you on the shoulder to tell you something would you tell someone I struck you? There are many ways to do things and we are working with a large aggressive dog who is responding to this SO FAR when after months nothing else has worked. But having my childs face ripped off would be better than trying to train a different way?
From my understanding of the issue it sounds like you are using a form of distraction - and a walking stick is long enough to reach him. At least, thats what makes sense in my mind. When Bingley is going after one of the kitties, all I have to do is lightly touch his rear and all of a sudden the attention is back on mom, and the kitty can leave the area. Does it seem like this is whats happening?
that is EXACTLY what is happening. The long term goal is to be able to get close enough between them all to be able to touch his behind and have him refocus. right now while we are doing other things to work out his aggression it is safer for me while still getting me closer. he is really doing good so quick...im really proud of him.
It is always peferable to try to work to keep the dog in his existing home, and I admire you for that.

I just know that many people are out there calling themselves "trainers" and don't have a clue about dog behavior. It is a behaviorist you need for Brudy Blue Eyes...a positive one that doesn't use sticks.

I am very impressed that a tap...or touch....on the behind will defuse a fight. It certainly wouldn't in my household or in any of the dog fights I have witnessed. What do you do if he doesn't respond? Hit him harder? I know it sounds like I am being sacastic, but I am really trying to understand this.

Just because he may have been treated badly before and has issues doesn't mean that he doesn't deserve gentle, respectful understanding and treatment...Maybe more so. They all do.
Good to hear he's responding so quickly. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it'll work out for you all.

I know that the re-direct by touching the rear seems to work for my Lola too. When she has her over- excited moments and won't listen to me, I touch her butt, and it gets her focus back on me.

Good luck with Brudy!!
I am just thinking, you tell him to "Get down" when he jumps and tap him.
Would that not confuse him when you do the "down" command, for instance while having him "Sit" then down, on the ground?
I was told when they jump, to use "Off" because "down" would confuse them?
I am not an expert, but have a therapy dog and that is what they teach us.

yes it is working and not abusive in any way.
Just my two cents... if one method of training worked for all dogs there would be only one method of training. I can see the tap as being a way to break the focus if given early enough... and it's a much safer way to do it than with your hand if there's a dominance struggle going on between dog and owner.

We use "off" to get off the couch or bed or off us. We use down for "lie down"... I still have to remind my husband on occassion that these are two separate commands.

Off topic, but the photo of your dog is absolutely adorable. I love her white face and one black ear. Sorry for disrupting the thread, but had to comment.
Everybody has their own method
Brudy needs special attention and you know what he needs you are his Mom
It would be nice if a "treat" would make it all better but, it doesn't always
Well, you know that!
I am sure alot of people do not understand multiple dogs and the differnece in training
Many sheepies ago I would have thought a treat could fix everything!
NO---it doesn't
I have many rescue sheepies and I agree with you
We are trying to make their lives better...we can't help they were neglected, abused, and who knows what else
All we can do is try to make the next years better
