I don't think that would work. Composting is really rather invoved. Long ago we had a special composting bin and it was really a lot of work. I don't think just burying pieces of pumpkin, as novel an idea as that is, would give you the same effect. |
Sigh...
I didn't think so. It just would have felt "better" then just throwing them away. At least they'd have a secondary use, besides sitting on my porch for a week! Someday I may start a worm composting bin. maybe I can feed the pumpkins to the worms... |
You could always boil em up and make pumpkin pie |
No, go ahead a chop them up and bury them. Even tho they are "composted" properly, they do break down adding good stuff to the soil. Anything that is organic and not a fat or have a toxic material added to it is fine for the garden soil. (dog poop has a lot of fat in it.......sorry, not good for garden soil).
Sheet composting is is just burying the material and covering with soil, trench composting is digging a trench, filling in the trench and covering with soil. A true compost pile does have to go thru some serious heating to kill harmful pathogens, but if you are using kitchen waste, I wouldn't worry much about harmful pathogens. |
