I've got one that is exactly the same and I have tried everything, including what you've described. She completely flips out -- barking, panting, drooling, shaking.
What has finally worked for me is physically holding and soothing her. I keep her in a harness and I hold her tight and sometime grasp her muzzle or squeeze the back of her skull a bit. I also feed her a steady stream of food and treats. Being on a month long road trip has helped. . . Now, I do about 10 minutes of firm soothing and she settles into heavy panting with just intermittent barking. Good luck! |
If the holding tight & soothing is the solution for you, a long time back I posted about this alternative therapy car harness thing that basically puts pressure on the shoulder blades. I'll see if I can find the post, but it's been over a year now but I wonder if it would be something that works for you guys.
Val, btw., are you home now? I'm pining for a doggie playdate for neuter boy... |
Yes I haven't forgotten about the anxiety wrap. I intend to order one when I get home. Holding her tight is the key. It really helps although she still pants and whimpers.
We're in Boulder now. I keep meaning to post an update but I've been visiting with people and so I haven't had those long, lonely nights in hotel rooms to do it. . . Maybe tonight. . . |
You could go visit the Johnsons and Smokin' while you are in Colorado! |
