A bit OT (being a cat), but I know there's a lot of knowledge floating around out there! She has the cat quarantined, uses bleach with his articles and gloves for contact with him (she's a nurse too) Has been destroying his soiled bedding, etc. Also been putting him in sunlight, but that is getting more difficult with the colder weather. He is positive for spots under a black light. |

Hey whaddaya know -- I am currently going through this with Chumley.
We saw a Vet in Santa Fe and she said to shave the area, shampoo the affected areas daily with the anti-fungal shampoo, and then I also apply an anti-fungal liquid 3 times per day. Her spots are clearing up nicely. She said that I shouldn't worry too much about catching it because it exists everywhere and it is Chum's weakened immune system due to prednisone that made her break out. Still, I am being careful and washing my hands alot. Good luck to Mary and her kitty! |
For humans, once it gets into the hair, an oral medication is required. Usually for a period of 6 weeks. Unfortunately, it starts looking better before that time, so many stop the oral meds before they should.
And we are seeing more and more kids with bald spots from previous ringworm cases that weren't treated properly. |
