I looooove IKEA. Go there all the time. I used to live about 10 minutes away from one, and we'd go almost once a week. Bored? Nothing to do? Family outing to IKEA!
Give yourself at least 2 hours just to see it all. |
I love Ikea!!!! we don't have one in my neck of the woods so I have to order out of the catalogue.
I love, love, love Ikea... If I won the 649, I would buy an Ikea store and live in it.... |
Worth the trip! Tons of fun, and a discovery around every
corner. Interesting furniture, and a neat section of lamps. Plan a lot of time, its addictive. Our store has a dining area,so you can take a break--- then continue shopping. It's a neat concept, interesting to see shoppers drive by one of our most popular furniture stores to go to Ikea........ |
hmmmmmmmmmmmm ...... Swedish Meatballs. |
We love IKEA! Myself, daughter and friends go often. (Well, it's an hour and a half away, so as often as we are nearby!)
It is one of my favorite places to shop. Give yourself several hours to go through the showroom displays, then shop! We fill our cars everytime without fail. Definitely a do not pass . |
This is what I figured. And that could be a problem....I will buy too much and things I don't need . Maybe I will time it right so I only have an hour........ha ha |
There's always Christmas shopping............ |
Here's a thread from a while back where we talked about Ikea. Thought is might give you some insight. It is a fun place to go...once

I love Ikea. It is great for wandering around and decorating ideas. It is best to avoid it on the weekends if possible....it gets CRAZY. If I am going there for something specific I usually either find it on their website and print out the page...or find the page in the catalogue. That way if I can't find it on my own right away...I find someone who works there and ask where the item is located. Usually I have walked past the item 10 times already and just didn't see it . |
I think it's fun to look around in Ikea, but personally wouldn't get any furniture there. Friends always joke about the stuff there (like as long as you don't plan on standing on it, it's great college furniture, etc). |
I love Ikea! You do get what you pay for. The cheaper stuff is just that-- cheaper stuff-- but that's pretty much the norm in whatever you buy. The nice part about the low prices is that you can change things often. I hate having the same furniture too long! |
I love it to, and wanted to go and buy a bag of the meatballs...thinking I was just speaking to hubby...as the kids never listen to me...Haha
Anyways they were so excited about going, but hubby said no. They LOVE the play area...we can leave them there for 1 hour, while they color, play in the ball pit, climb the walls. And we ususally go for a coffee and cinnamon bun. I love the kitchen stuff, baskets, pictures and frames, kids furniture last's forever. We have the yellow table and it is 7 years old now...still perfect. I am not familiar with the other stuff, we bought our home furniture from the Brick and Sears. |
Was just there on Sunday and we spent way too much. I love that store. It's like Costco can't just go in for one thing. |
I guess I'm the oddball out... I'm not really fond of ikea stuff. None of it appeals to my style. I like comfort things, not sleek and sharp lines I guess.
Some of my first apartment furniture was ikea... but it certainly didn't last long. Served it's purpose though. I'd like to redecorate someday with the Tuscany collection from Sklar Peppler. My current stuff is still under warranty. |
I totally love Ikea! If my furniture isn't antique (Midcentury Modern) then it's Ikea or this other store that really is in Sweden.
We have only had one problem with a piece that we bought and of course, it was the biggest thing we ever bought there! When we got our entertainment center home we found that one of the long sides was smashed. Didn't find that until we got home, had to drive back down the next day. On our way to the National, I crested a hil and there, beaming like a mirage on a hill was a giant Ikea. It's too bad that the van was already full of dogs! |
We have some Ikea furniture...its good for 'temporary furniture" we bought some dressers to keep the kids toys in.They were on clearance for $50.
We bought most of the furniture we have in their "as is" section....they put items in there that have been on display or may have a mark or scratch on them. We have some Ikea chairs that I was able to get a slip cover for after the kids got the cream upholstery dirty...same thing with the couch for the kids playroom. Normally I dont care for modern sleek lines....my taste is more Antique or Country French... but until I have the budget for that and the kids are older....Ikea is good enough. What Ikea is best for is kitchen items, storage ideas and wrapping supplies...their rolls of wrapping paper have about 3x the amount of paper on them than other places. |
We have Skalar Pepler too...still in great shape, still under warranty...it's 9 years old...I still think it's comfortable.
It has curved lines, with cabbage flowers on it...now I wish I knew more back when I picked it...I bought the sofa with a pattern, and wish it was plain. Oh well, maybe I'll slip cover it someday. I like the Ikea bedding and drapes too...very reasonable. |
I just heard on the local news last night that Charlotte is getting an IKEA!!YIPPEE!!!
It's not scheduled to open until spring of 2009, so it's a little too soon to be really excited , but HURRAY!! we're getting an IKEA!!! :cheer: |
Quote: Charlotte is getting an IKEA!!YIPPEE!!! Cheering!
It's not scheduled to open until spring of 2009, We're finally getting a Target and Bed, Bath, and Beyond ....but I wonder if it will be built before we leave AK. |
This is not good news. An IKEA will open this spring and it's 10 minutes from my house. I don't need another temptation. I have to be blindfolded to walk by the Nordstrom shoe department. |
I know what you mean!! I go broke every time I go to Nordstrom's. |
Me too. I don't think I've ever been in there without buying something.
You know what's really funny is that I'm only excited about IKEA coming because I've heard y'all talk about it so much. I've never actually been to one. How sad is that?! |
I got a laugh out of that. Excited about a store you may not go into more than once. Hopefully that's not the case though. I love finding a store where I can find everything I need at. |
Beware this company sucks big time. Do not take my word search around the net. $25.00 Charge to cancel a home delivery order 24 hours after you made it $25.00 charge to add to an order. Employees do not give a crap at all they make walmart employees look like doctors. Broken parts in boxes online orders are the worst. CHECK the NET do more searched the place is the worst |

I'll take your own advice and not take your word. |
IKEA is designed as a purchase and take with you store. There are always U-Hauls and trucks in the parking lot. Heavens, I didn't even know they delivered. And all of the companies that I know that offer delivery do charge a fee for cancelling with less than 24 hrs notice - they load the trucks thenight before and have their route planned out. With too many cancelations, that throws off the delviery times for custormers or means their employees are sittng around, getting paid and doing nothing during that time period.
And the staff has always been very helpful. Sometimes it's hard for them figure out the computer system - it's in Swedish! And I've always found that if I am nice, people are more likely to go out of their way to help. This is not a store to go to if you are in a hurry - our record is 15 minutes for an item that we knew we wanted and where it was in the warehouse! |
I will say, I used the web site once to order a lamp that I broke. It is an annoying process. It's not easy and one clicky a la Amazon. But, that aside, I still love the store. I just go there when I need anything now! |
I think their web site is very unhandy.
Definitely go to the store. the staff at ours is great and very helpful. I have been there so much that I can find thing quickly. In fact, Saturday I'm stopping again while I'm in the cities. |
Maybe I should have one of you i-Kia (remember the RTA car idea?) lovers send me a bag of their Swedish Meatballs since I went into a store once with high hopes and left, or tried to get out of the maze I should say, an hour later.
I wanted to buy some meatballs and have a look around. I wasn't impressed at all with the line of merchandise and never found the meatballs before succumbing to claustrophobia and trying to get the heck out of there! |
UGH IKEA!!! Bleeuuurgh!! I HATE it there. We went only 2 days ago, to buy a table that didn't exist The IKEAs here in the UK are horrible, horrible places. I would love to visit one over there and see what all the fuss is about. I think they must send us all the rejected stuff from everywhere else in the world
The worst thing about them (in my opinion) is EVERYTHING is the same, but in 4 or 5 different colours. So these crazy people with their trolleys (do you say 'cart' in the US?) full so high they have to keep one arm stretched reaching over the top- are walking round going "oooh that matches too- I want that as well!" but EVERYONE has exactly the same stuff!!! In horrible HORRIBLE colours!!!! I hate shoping at the best of times Sorry folks, rant over Cassie |
Ron, our store has a restaurant area upstairs - so you won't drop while you shop - and the takeout stuff just past the checkout lines.
I'm not a big fan of Swedish meatballs, but their cinnamon rolls smell soooo good! |

They're actually all like that, so if you've been to one, you'll know your way around no matter what one you go to! |
I l o v e IKEA, good I dont work there cause otherwise I would buy everything! This is the only furniture-shop in UK where you can get everything you need from sofas, tables, rugs, blinds, crockery, plants, smelly candles etc. etc. and you can eat there cheap aswell!
I always have problems to come out of IKEA without filling the trolley to the top!! My house is full of Ikea, defenitly worth a visit!! I've even been in the original IKEA in Stockholm, Sweden! Nothing beats that! You will get adicted!!! |
Cassie, you can go online and look up the item you want and see if it is in stock before you go. The best time to go here is when they first open. Better parking spots and less people.
Yes, it is all basically the same furniture offered in 6 different colors. But for some of us, that is a good thing. We bought furniture for my daughter's college apt - how wonderful to get most of it in one place. The furniture will easily last until she graduates, maybe even through her doctorate. If it doesn't, oh, well, it didn't cost much. And it is the perfect place to get furniture for a kid's room - cheap enough you don't care if it has to be replaced in a few years. The kids need different stuff for different ages anyway. |
Yea, we did that but it was our fault we got the measurements wrong (actually it was the boyf of course! ) so when we found the item it was too big haha. I think the range of stuff there at the moment is not very nice, the colours are all very strange. The pet section was a huge disapointment- but then its not a pet store- which is where I really wanted to be that day!
The quality of the furniture certainly beats places like Argos. |
