Just got back from the vet-Walter weighs 98 pounds!

Walter had his yearly check-up today, and he weighed in at a whopping 98lbs. The vet said he is about 14 lbs overweight. I am so embarrassed!! Not only that but I am worried about my dog, if he is this chunky at 3.5 years old imagine what he'll be like in 5 or so years. No more carob treats for Wally :(

Don't feel bad. When I got Lucy, she was so finicky, she was already nearly 30 pounds underweight so once I got her eating, I was so happy, I didn't really pay much attention to the fact that she was getting, well, huge. When I brought her home, and she was already full grown, mind you, she barely weighed 30 pounds. At her biggest, she weighed 82 pounds. 8O After we got Clyde, the added activity and stress of a new dog brought her down to a reasonable 55-60 pounds. I look at pictures now and she was such a huge fatty. I should post one because you guys would never recognize her. She was this tiny head on this giant Jabba the Hut body I always just thought she was really fluffy. Turned out it was fat. It was all done out of love!
The vet really didn't seem too concerned, she said just to decrease his food to 2 cups a day. I think I'm going to give him 3 cups a day, but tell everyone to stop feeding him Cheetos!!

The part that breaks my heart is that he doesn't get nearly enough exercise. He will not play in the backyard for more than 2 minutes, and will not walk in the neighborhood (you literally have to pull him after 1 block). I am only with him for 2 days a week, and both those days I can get him to walk at the park for a little more than a mile each day. But that is pretty much it. He is sooo lazy and way too mean to go to a dog park. it breaks my heart!

And I would love to see fat Lucy pictures, it would probably make me feel better about my little chubdog

I'll post the monster size one on Monday. This photo really accentuates the smallness of the head and giant girth of the body. Unfortunately, it's not digital and my scanner went out at home so it'll have to wait until then.

In the meantime, you can look at Clyde. He's also beginning to venture out of the safety of thinness and into the valley of blubber.
Tasker is a bit ummmmmmmmm chunkey as well. He's a lot older than Walter but it kinda snuck up on us. I had to drastically reduce the amount I fed him, he's down to about 1 1/2 cups a day divided in morning and evening, to compensate for the fact that he isn't anywhere near as active as he used to be.
Don't feel bad, Bunker is overweight too. She has a huge bell y hanging down. She weighs 94 lbs. The vet said about 10 pounds and she'd be okay. But I feel so quilty when I open the fridge and she comes running. I tell her know but she gives me those sad sad eyes.
Kelsey is permantly on a diet, she is built like a tank, she just looks at food and blows out LOL. I call her my Jelly Bean.

Actually I did not have any weight issues with her until she was spayed at 6, then she blew up like a Jelly Bean. She is smaller is size to Brie, but weighs more 8O Poor Kid, she loves her food too much
How about feeding Walter a light dog food? We did that with our last OES & didn't need to cut down on quantity too much. Or a lot of people use green beans as filler when cutting back on food so that might make the diet transition easier.
We started Bogart on Artemis Weight Management and
he likes the food. We are also on the green bean plan
for the am feeding. We are increasing his exercise activities
as well. We noticed the weight issue after he was neutered.

Good luck!
ok when I neutered about 17 years ago the same thing happened to me. Maybe I should start the green bean diet.

Phoebe is 82 pounds but the vet says she just right. She is really big and the boys run her about 1 mile every day.
