Hair color growing in grey...

OK, weird question, but my friend who has always had Boxers asked me this..
Will Allies hair that is already there and black, turn grey...Or does new hair grow in grey and the black falls out?? I ask because I feel she does not shed..So I do not think the hair will fall out...The most shedding I have seen is small little ball of hair, usually after grooming her. I only pick up maybe 2 a week!

I hope you have a good vacuum cleaner!
New gray hair will start to come in and the puppy coat will start falling out. Be prepared for some shedding. But don't let it discourage you - once the puppy coat is gone, the shedding will dramatically decrease, especially with regular brushing.
It grows in grey.
Here is a pic of a line of Panda's coat in May when she was 10 months old and just beginning to change

And then the next pic was in August, at 13 months old

You cn see the progression of grey quite clearly. She now has more than that again, I'll try to tkae a pic of it today...
So the puppy coat that she sheds, could that be starting? The little balls of black hair I have been finding? I can handle that kind of shedding...Its the STRANDS of hair I was hoping not to get! My parents Labs and friends Boxers, yikes! You wear their coat after bring with them for a while....
Even during the change they don't really shed. As the hair comes out it tends to get tangled in the other hair and cause mats. Most of it will come out only during brushing.... and the occasional fluffball LOL
Fluffball! What a perfect word to describe them! I just love this breed....
Very cool pictures of Panda! I would have never thought to take pictures as the hair grew out. I want to do that with Chewie. They look like growth rings on a tree!
Thanks Stacey that is really informative. Lovely photos
wow my oes mix not sure what he is all of a sudden his ears were pure white and now turning black spots like over nite his hair is not like my other sheepys he has a part going all way down his back
Maybe he has some dalmation or pointer in the mix? Dalmations are born pure white and get spots as they grow.
Phoebe was very light when she was younger she willbe 2 December 22 and it seems she is turning darker. I was wondering if it was because I have never had her shaved down.

No nothing to do with shaving them down :D She is at the last coat transition, she is getting darker because of the mature coat.

Brie was nearly white, so light grey when she went from pup coat to the junior colour, now darker as she is 4 now. :D
Re: black spots-
Our rat terriers get black spots as they mature. They are actual pigment in the skin. Our friends' Toy Fox Terriers do the same thing.
They have their big black patches as pups, they just get the smaller ones as they mature.
