Worst food as a kid

O.K. we've done favorite foods.
What about the worst as a kid.

I would hide green beans under the edge of my plate so it looked like I had eaten them. Good thing it was my job to clear the table after dinner or I would have been busted!

Also would spit out cube steak in my napkin and hide it.

lima beans! Those things are evil! Cooked mushrooms too, still hate them... nothing worse then limp fungus on my plate.
I loved all vegetables, but meat I would move around the plate to make it look like I had eaten some LOL

I absolutely HATED liver. Still do.
FISH...... I hate fish just don't like the Smell PHEW!!!!!!!!! :)

Kim & Maizie
My mom's roast was like shoe leather! Good cook otherwise, but the roast was horrible. I remember sitting at the table, trying to hide it, choke it down or anything.
Green beans are the best! :)

I hated liver.

Lima beans too... my dad is one of those who believe chili should be drowned in beans.

I think the only other thing I absolutely would cry over was the fish my mom would make me eat. The korean fish I had to eat still had bones in it. She would tell me they were meant to be swallowed even though I said they hurt my throat!!! I guess I can name several korean foods I was forced to eat that I hated ...like there's a traditional new year's soup that you eat and said to add a year to your life. blech.
Meatloaf! Yuck!

And soft fish.

And cooked spinach.

And lima beans.

And chicken noodle soup (it reminded me of being sick).

And tuna sandwiches.

Mayo.
I did not like peas or asparagus
I hate coconut
and I used to hate it when there were nuts in my dessert, like brownies or fudge.
I dont like nuts mixed in with food too...especially salads...waldorf salad..nasty!!

also any veggie that puts sweet stuff in it....like acorn squash with brown sugar or yams with brown sugar and marshmellows..
I hated almost everything my mother made. Except for a few things.
I especially hated her London Broil or as we called it London Leather. YUCK! The most awful food she ever tried to get me to eat was Brussel sprouts. Just remembering what it smelled like cooking is enough to make me gag. I also hated pees still do.

I used to feed all of my nasty food to our OES Daisy. After she went to the Rainbow Bridge I actually had to eat Mom's food :(

She thought I wasn't eating well, because I stopped eating as much.
No dog to feed it too. Luckily 6 months later we got another dog.
the worst food: fish-allergic :( Other then that, Mom was a good cook.
Mom was and still is a terrible cook, but us kids didn't know any better. We are all pretty good at eating almost anything...and surviving.

But PARSNIPS! Who was the idiot who invented them? Aren't they a cross between a carrot and a turnip? (Both of which I love by the way). Mom would say how good they are for you, and boil them up and serve with butter....GROSS!

Just the smell of them makes me gag, and when I see them in a grocery store I go down another isle...Even the look of them creeps me out......Yuck..Phooeyy...Spit..spit...
Liver! Mom would try to hide the flavor by cooking it with onions and bacon.......what a terrible thing to do to onions and bacon.

I'll eat a parsnip reluctantly, but keep those turnips away!

Finally anything slimey.....forget okra or raw oysters.

Tofu is OK hidden in a fruit smoothie.
Liver and onions ---- yum :D

oysters---- yum :D
I'm with you Darcy. Have you noticed that you and I seem to
be the only ones who like some of these foods? Is it just us,
or is it everyone else??

Shellie
Shell...I could obviously go out to dinner with you anywhere any time.....We are the normal ones...everyone else is weird :D
I also love Liver and Onions! :D I season it with Goya Adobo seasoning and cook in butter. Mmmmmm!
Never had to eat it as a kid though. Maybe that's why I like it.
Never had liver, but the smell of pip's liver treats makes me ill, so I don't think I'll be tryin that particular dish anytime soon!
Calf's liver and onions, or chopped chicken livers....hmmmmmmm
I just had a past client....betty mae....older jewish woman, bring me some of her home made chicken liver pate....wow was it ever good....i went home poured a glass of wine and sat on the patio savoring both the wine and pate....

I just love all (but one) of my clients.....especially the ones who not only cook, but bring me treats :D

Me too! I make the best liver and onions....well, when I ate beef...

And raw oysters rock...just slurped out fo the shell...MMMMMMMM

Maybe we should start a thread "Yucky foods that most people don't like but I do!"
Darcy, you know if I ever come out there we are doing a real
swanky dinner somewhere fabulous to eat all the foods nobody
else loves to eat. Escargot, oysters, liver, frog legs..... mmmm

Oh oh oh! I thought of something I don't like, and hated as a kid
Cup Cheese- how gross is that stuff. Is this a local thing here -
does everyone know what this is? It has the consistency of
new rubber cement, smells like dead feet, and is the color of
snot. My Dad loved it, spread on butterbread.

I can't think of any other food I really hate.

When I was a little kid I did not have the option of not eating my
food. When I got a little older I had to at least try everything, and
there was NO spitting it out.

Shellie
I hated Beans, mushrooms (still do), most meats, canned peas and creamed corn. When Mom would make chili I would b bad on purose so I would get sent to bed without dinner. LOL.

YUCK! Enjoying ilver and onions is one thing that my Mom and MIL have in common. Mom only ate it out though. The only food I really didn't enjoy that Mom made was meatloaf. ICK! I was the only kid so I usually got what I wanted
Turnips. God made them to feed to the hogs. (Geez, I hope I didn't offend anyone).

Yup, same with me....I had to at least eat what was on my plate...If we didnt like it, we werent offered more....but it is amazing that if given very small amounts and had very determined parents, kids will learn to like most things....I thank my mom for feeding me "gross" food :D
This thread does NOT make me hungry.

So I gather you are not interested in some pig's feet in that wonderful, thick gravey that they are stewed in????

Actually, "pig's feet" is the direct french translation "des pattes des couchon" so it sounds better in English..."Pork Hocks"......either way....de-li-cious!!!
nm
I had lamb for the first time a few weeks ago at a restaurant that was named one of the best in the U.S. (funny that it would be in Alaska). ...and it was the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted. Of course, it came in a beef stew form, so maybe that was it. I don't know, but I could probably add that to my list. Anything beef stew-ish (soup, stew) was something I hated eating growing up.
No Nicole, pickled pigs feet.
Hocks are great, with greenbeans.

not familiar with this...

Shellie
You need to try lamb chops - on a grill or broiled. They are absolutely heavenly!! :D
OCHRE OR OKRE? I'm not sure how to spell it but. 8O  :( yyyyyuuuuuuuuuuucccccckkkkkkkk EEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWW

Got to be one of the worst foods ever. I still couldn't possibly even entertain the thought of retrying it as an adult.

Also could never bring myself to eat duck or lamb. Who wants to eat a baby duck or lamb? Grossssssssss.
gross... but oh so tasty. Duck and lamb are favorites of mine... guilty, guilty favorites, but favorites none the less!
Lamb isn't a lamb. It is a young adult, just like the beef, pork, chicken, etc... Mutton is an old sheep - nasty and tough, just like a stewing chicken or something else like shoe leather!

LOL! I just spent three days smelling roasted lamb on a spit at our church festival and spent three days salivating. When I could get 3 minutes to eat, it was lamb! At the end they had 2 whole boneless legs of lamb already cooked leftover. I bought one.

When I came home I was tired and told DH, "I brought home a lamb." He thought I bought a real lamb and was looking in the back of the van hoping I remembered to put down the rubber mats.  His comment, "Do you think the dogs will approve?"

He was thrilled with the actual lamb and requested it for 8 meals...lunch and dinner. ....and to think he never had lamb until he met me
my mom didnt really make us eat anything bad, plus she wasnt a very adventerous cook so there werent very many things we had to try. but my dad used to (still does) make stuffed shells for dinner because everyone loved them. i HATE stuffed shells and lasagna, ricotta cheese and thick noodles make me sick to this day
Creamed corn.
Oyster dressing.

Fortunately for me, my father was not an adventureous eater and my mother catered to him a lot, so I didn't have to deal with okre more than once. I grew up thinking I hated vegetables, but it turns out that I hate canned vegetables. I like most vegetables if they are cooked properly or left raw. However, I don't think I'd like fresh creamed corn, if I ever were so insane as to ruin perfectly good corn on the cob by creaming it.
Liver, Brussel sprouts & cabbage - eeeuuugghhh still won't eat it
DEFINATELY OKRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was raised in the SOuth and Okra was my Mother's FAVORITE food. One day she served okra and I refused to eat it, she told me I could not leave the table til I ae my okra. I told her if she made me eat it I would VOMIT. She said too bad, eat it. I ate it and vomited ALL OVER THE table. She never made me eat anything I didn't want again.

My daughter grew up hearing that story and she decided she LOVED okra. Every time we went to a restaurant or somewhere she could order it she would have okra, it made me nauseous. YEARS later she confessed that she really hated okra she just ate it because she knew how much I hated it!!!
For my husband he hates brussel sprouts and watermelon.

I have never had brussel sprouts. And I love watermelon. But what I hate the most is lima beans and ham. I remember one time my mom made a lima bean ham soup and the smell of it made me want to vomit.
When I was a kid I absolutely hated salads. I can remember my parents forcing me to eat salads and literally gagging on them because I hated them so much. But, as a teenager I was very athletic, and I knew the importance of a healthy diet. One day when I was fifteen, I got the courage to order a salad with Blue Cheese Dressing when I was eating dinner at a restaurant with some friends, and I loved it! I really loved the Blue Cheese Dressing! A few weeks later my parents took us out to dinner, and I ordered a Chef's Salad with Blue Cheese Dressing. My parents almost passed out in surprise watching me eat the whole salad! Now as an adult I am a huge salad lover! I absolutely love fresh salads, and I eat salads all the time. Plus, I like many different types of dressing especially Blue Cheese, French, Italian, Creamy Italian, and Buttermilk Ranch. I don't like the taste of egular Ranch Dressing. Some people have told me that my diet is strange for a guy being such a huge salad lover. People have told me that it's rare to meet a guy who loves salads as much as I do. It's strange how our tastes change from childhood to adulthood. I couldn't stand the thought of eating a salad when I was young, I even hated watching people eat salads! Now I crave a fresh salad pretty much every day!
It's easier to say what I do like

any veggies except lima beans

chocolate

nachos

When my sister and I were little (twins), we would throw the green beans in the mouth of a mounted fish. We actually taught our little brother to do this too. We just told Dad about it a few years ago. He got a kick out it-he wouldn't have back then though!

Really?? You don't like Okra?? I didn't think that was possible!! 8O
