PLEASE DON'T MENTION LADDERS!!!!!!!!!!!

This morning, before my husband Chuck set off for work, I was telling him a story about something I had seen on TV this weekend. I was telling him about on QVC they where advertising a ladder and a man was showing how well it worked. In a matter of fact, I pointed out to him that he had a ladder just like it. Anyway, while they where doing the presentation for the ladder on QVC the man had climbed up the ladder will confidence and then went to go back down and missed the rung and fell off, yes on live TV. They said he was ok.
So I asked my husband if he would climb on a ladder and clean off the cealing fan in the livingroom before he headed off. So he climb up and cleaned it off and then off to work he went. I, of course, told him to be careful because he does Home Improvements and you never know what can happen.
So he is at this triplex he is remodeling and he has to climb on a ladder to repair drywall on a ceiling. Well low and behold on his way down he missed a rung and banged his shin pretty bad. So his shin is now swollen and sore, and of course took about 10 years off his life because he thought for sure he was going down all the way.
This afternoon, at the same unit, he decided to clean out the gutters. So he climbed on a ladder and got on the roof and was spraying water in the gutter. He was walking back and forth on the roof and from pulling the hose he knocked the ladder over and was stuck on the roof. So to get down he jumped off the roof, yes 8 feet down. My husband is 50 yrs old. I think I am going to need to take all of his ladders away from him. lol

 Sorry to laugh, but since he didn't get seriously injured it is pretty funny.
Scary! Glad he's alright... I'd hide the ladders too
Yikes! 8O Glad he's okay!! :D

I broke an ankle falling 8' off a ladder once.
I will not tell my husband about this post! 8) He will refuse to climb ladders and go on the roof, the barn, you name it!

I am glad that your husband is OK. That near fall must have been scary. It makes my palms sweat just thinking about it.
My husband and I have a pact, no more than 3 steps up, in other words, step stool, no more ladders. Period.
I saw what you are talking about onn QVC on one of those "funny moments" shows.

I'm glad your husband is okay. As a kid, I always thought climbing/being on a ladder would be cool, but now I get nervous each time I'm on it. Hopefully your husband doesn't have any more close calls. My grandmother-in-law was doing something similar on the roof, and broke her hip yearsssssssssss back. Ever since then, she hasn't been the same.
I don't think I ever told the forum my ladder story.

I have a 32 foot fiberglass extension ladder, type 1A, rated 300 pounds. This is a big heavy monster, but even so when you get up that high, it starts to wiggle like crazy. So I needed to work at the top of the peak of the gable end of my house, so I had the ladder extended to it's entire length, all 32 feet, and up against the house.

So there I was on the ladder, and Joan comes around the corner to offer me something to drink and I lost my concentration and I fell completely off of the 32 foot ladder. Joan was horrified! Mulligan ran over to me and started to jump all over me wanting to play.

I was a little shook up, but fortunately I was only on the first rung. :phew:
As to the part about using a ladder to get to the roof...and then the ladder falls down...Been there-Done that
The fun part is our house is two stories so I spent about two hours stuck up there until my neighbor finally came home from work and was able to put the ladder back up.
Now it is funny but at the time...?
8O EEEK!

I don't do ladders. Glad he is ok!!!!
Glad he's OK. Yeah, definitely ground him from ladders for a while.

Ron......that's too funny.
Ron

I'm there with ya, Ginny. Every fall we have to bribe my brother-in-law to do the eavestroughs. He doesn't like heights, but he just has to look at Don and I, with the pleading and real fear in our eyes, and he gives in. He doesn't mind the ladder part...just the height part.

We owe him BIG TIME after that.

I have a stupid ladder story too. I had climbed up an extension ladder to try and prune this giant tree by myself. I climbed about 20 ft, climbed off of the ladder into the tree and nestled in the yoke of a couple of branches and started sawing. Well of course I stupidly sawed the huge tree branch over top of the ladder and of course the branch decided to fall on top of the ladder & knock it down. I was stuck up in the tree for about an hour before I got someone's attention.

Btw., Frank loves to follow people up ladders. I'm going to have to film him one of these days...
