Many greetings from Northern California

Hello from Northern California!

This will be our first (and not the last) entry in this forum on OES. We have had 17 OES fur people over the last 35 years - most rescued from abusive homes (don't get me started) and a couple we have raised from puppies. Currently, we have three fuzzbutts:
Samantha; the youngest at 2, has been raised from a puppy and is nothing more than a perpetual motion machine.
Becket; is a rescue from an abusive owner who decided that constant physical abuse of the dog was necessary. He (Becket, not the past owner)has been with us for almost three years now and has only recently come "out of his shell" and began trusting humans.
Henry; is a huge (140 pound) five year old rescue dog who has had more than his share of problems. Presently, he is being loved, fed (enormous amounts I might add) and played with to overcome his angry outlook at the human world.
Our furry kids enjoy living in their house on the beach but must put up with my trains running around the yard a few days a week. Samantha enjoys riding the railroad but the other two are somewhat leery of the noise and movement.
Photos to follow when I learn how.
Best regards!

Hi Simm!

I like you already! Big hugs to you for taking those that needed a home the most. You're going to love it here..very friendly people, great conversations and no matter how experienced you are..you'll learn and share info with others from around the world.

I'm Marianne, mom to 3 dogs, 4 cats, 2 foster cats, bunny and guinea pig.
The boys are Merlin, Panda and Blue. Merlin has been with me since 8 wks and has had nothing but a good life. Panda, thanks to this forum was rescued from Hong Kong and Blue is a 17 yr old sheepie wannabee (he's lived with them all his life) but is really a Blueheeler/Lab.

I can't wait to hear your upcoming adventures and stories of your furballs.

Welcome!
Welcome to the forum! Henry may officially have the title of biggest OES on the forum!
Hi and welcome from sunny Arizona!

Greeting from Ontario, Canada!

I share my life with a few male humans and 2 OES...Dixie and Bosley. Both pooches came to me from different shelters.

Trains, huh? Now that's a different combination with OES...

Pictures, please! :plead:

Welcome to the forum from Norway :D
Welcome to the forum from the South - Baton Rouge, LA.

I think it is great you have taken on rescues that didn't trust humans. We currently have 4 sheepies (1 is a foster waiting for a furever home). The two oldest were the same way with a mistrust of humans.

Look forward to seeing more photos from your group and to reading the stories about your babies.

Adore the train!
Welcome from southern MN. Chewie is almost 6 months old, and our only OES now, but have 6 other dogs. We got our 1st OES 10 years ago. We have a rescue basset and 3 rescue horses! Can't wait to see and hear more.
Welcome! I just spent a week visiting SF. Maggie absolutely loved Fort Funston. Funnest off-leash dog park ever. . .

Looking forward to pictures. :D
Welcome!! Wow, 35 years of sheepies! That's definitely devotion to the breed. But I applaud you for all your efforts with the rescues. Knowing how some of these precious dogs are treated breaks my heart. But I am glad to know there are people out there who really do care!!
140LBS!?!?! I didn't know OES could get that big? and I thought my baby was huge at 61 lbs...hahaha.
Welcome from eastern PA! Love your avatar pic! Looking forward to many more pics and all the wonderful stories you've accumlated over these past 35 years!!
Welcome to the Forum! Sounds like you will have plenty to share with 35 years of sheepies and the largest sheepie in the world!
Gud dag...g'day...guten tag...sorry if I've omitted the other languages.

I should mention that Henry is not really 140 pounds...merely a petite 139.6 pounds as of this afternoon at the PetClub scale. However, he isn't the biggest. Some years back, Bridewell Kennels had Ch. 'Big Mongomery" who tipped the scale at 160 plus. Mrs. Barnes was noted for breeding for big OES.
Once in the show ring (Santa Barbara, CA) I went up against Big Monty with Ch. 'Lord Donneybrooke of Clyde' who was only 82 pounds. It looked like David vs. Golliath. Monty took BOB that day while Clyde and I only had a trot around the ring. Oh well... The whole point is that I have a soft spot in my heart (maybe my head too) for the bigger members of our breed.
I'll see if I can find the storage boxes of all the photos and share them. My personal favorite is one of Winston who loved to climb stairs to the top of the childrens' slide...and then slide down. Again & again & again.
Now you need to convert all those Pounds into Kilos for us in Australia

Look forward to the photos, have you any of sheepies riding on the train, I just love your train, especially as it is a steam one  and can't wait to see the sliding Winston :D
WELCOME!!! Pictures Pictures Pictures!! please
Welcome to the forum from Nova Scotia, Canada.

I can't wait to see your pictures.
Wow - you've got lots of great sheepie experience to share and I look forward to hearing more!

Can't wait to see pictures of your babies. Thank you for rescuing!!

140 lbs! Yowsa!! That's a big sheepie. 8O

Lisa - I think that's 63.5 kilos. :?
Pictures, pictures!

I used to lean towards the bigger dogs until I found myself at the orthopedic vet more often than I cared or could afford.

I was greatly disappointed when Simone stopped growing at an early age and barely makes 60 lbs, but she is by far the most active and agile sheepdog we've every had, plus I can lift her! OTOH, Jack is 105 and takes up too much of the couch, bed, floor and beyond my lifting ability 8O Other dogs have been the giants, Pyrs, Newf, St. Bernard, but I always have a sheepdog or two on hand for my entertainment.

Welcome and we look forward to more stories and pictures.
Welcome to the forum!

I agree with SheepieBoss about the smaller size. When we got Harry I thought he was going to be huge - but he is a mere 60 lbs - and he is very agile (which is good since we are doing agility) and I can pick him up, which I couldn't do with Mopsy. But I would love to see Henry - I bet he is amazing.

Please find a picture of Winston on the slide. The thought of him going up and down the slide brought a smile to my face. What a fun sheepie!
WELCOME!
