If so was it any good? I have been having a hard time getting supply of the Eagle Pack Holistic Dry I was using and this is available in Australia now. I have the girls back on Pro Plan for the time being, but prefer a dry that is chemical, hormone free, human grade ingredients, free range and organic. So has anyone used this brand, before I go ahead and order a big bag of it. |

I have used the wet version as training treats and the dogs loved it. I havent tried the dry version, at least if it is the same as I think you are talking about. If you are looking for something holistic I would say try and find Nutro's holistic food. They are completely organic and the dogs love that one too, at least mine did. Natural balance is good but I dont know if it is as natural as it claims to be but they did like it..... |
I recently switched Maggie and Chummie to the Nutro Ultra (the holistic one) and the both really like it. I like the way they process it, if you catch my drift. |
Nutro is not available here
Another one I can get is "Innova" Holisitc by Natura? Anyone heard of that one also? Geez darn supply places. |
A coworker of mine actually gives that to her pit bulls that she shows and she raves about it. She really likes it. I personally havent had any encounters with it. |
I haven't tried it, but I have heard good things about Innova. If you can get it, it may be worth a try. |
Yes, I tried the Natural Balance. It had "The" ...or at least one of the highest ratings in all the dog brands listed in the thread about "grading your dog food" ...the one where Willowsprite graded tons of brands.
I happened to be using this for Yuki ...and that's when she started to become "ticklish" all over. I don't see why it would cause it. I was using the formula for dogs with allergies. Was it Duck and Sweet Potato??? I don't remember... Anywho... it's the only food yuki has REFUSED to eat after being on it for several weeks. She eats ANYTHING and EVERYTHING, but this. With that said, I'd HIGHLY recommend the brand due to the ingredients. I have heard so many good things about it on other dog forums. There's just something deeper wrong with Yuki. |
I have heard rave reviews about Innova.... but mostly for performance dogs, sled dogs etc...
I know from my own experience the highest quality is not always the best for OES, I think in some cases it may be too rich for them.... That seemed to be the case when I tried Wellness Super5 Puppy mix, as well as Nutro Natural Performance blend. Are you not happy with pro plan? |
I've been told that Innova is very concentrated and very high in protien. I actually use the Innova cat food as a training treat and they both love it. It is very tiny but makes them very obedient. |
My friend uses the wet version for her Mini greyhounds and really raves about it. I think I tried the wet version years ago as a treat type of thing. Just the packaging was kind of inconvenient for a regular food. It came like a sausage. No experience with the kibble, didn't even know it existed. |
I have never heard about that on
I use Purina Lamb and Rice, and that is very great for my dogs |

Yes I am happy with Proplan, but loved the Eagle Pack Holisitic Blends as being guaranteed pesticide free and certified organic and Human grade ingredients, just love the product, if you read some Holisitic books and what goes into some dry food, it is frightening what we feed our dogs, some of the preservatives that list BHA or BHT are petroleum Derivatives that accumulate in the body tissue and have been linked to cancer and other problems. Another to check for is Ethoxyquin, this preservative, is a fungicide and color preservative.. It was originally developed as a rubber stabilizer and a pesticide. Why is it in dry foods? because it extends the shelf life of a product to 12 months or more. ProPlan is fine, just like to use more organic certified, human grade ingredients. Now I am thinking that the Innova might be too rich in ingredients, so thanks for that Just for the new year like to make sure no 2nd grade stuff going into the system. So everyone, become a lable reader, dry foods are convenient and balanced for growing dogs etc, just be aware what can lurk in processed dog food. Everything from grains contaminated with pesticides & molds, not fit for human consumption, to meats/meals contaminated and not fit for human consumption either. We don't eat it and niether should our pooches. |
If you subscribe to Whole Dog Journal or have access to it, they just sent out their reviews of the top holistic foods. I found the whole thing really informative, especially a section where they actually suggested switching your dog between a few quality foods every year to prevent the formation of allergies or intolerance to other foods. It made sense, actually.
Lisa, if you're interested and can't get it where you are, I can scan the most important pages (where they list their top foods and why) and e-mail them to you if you like. Just let me know. Jill |
Thanks Jill, very interested, will PM you |
We feed Nelson Innova Large Breed, which is about 25% protein. He seems to be doing very well on it.
The Innova EVO is the super-rich food at 42% protein, probably way more than the average OES should have. |
