GALVESTON — She may have missed her chance to be a princess, but Jami Matzke doesn’t feel like she lost much.

Matzke, 27, got dumped on national television Monday night on the latest episode of ABC’s “The Bachelor.”

Matzke, an event planner in Galveston, was one of nine finalists vying for the affection of Lorenzo Borghese, a cosmetics heir with a royal bloodline.

On the episode, Matzke competed with eight other bachelorettes in an opera-singing contest. As the winner, she went on a one-on-one date with Borghese to an Italian opera.

But, despite an opera hall to themselves and champagne-filled prelude, Borghese told Matzke he didn’t feel anything for her and sent her away just after the date.

“That’s such a kick in the face,” she said. “My ego was totally bruised.”

But she wasn’t heartbroken.

“There was zero attraction, at least on my part,” she said. “I could tell even the first night I got out of the limo.”

Matzke also said Borghese seemed quiet and shy — not the type of man she’s typically compatible with.

Matzke admits she’s loud, talkative and down-to-earth. If that wasn’t what Borghese wanted, that’s fine, she said.

But she said she felt like the person who viewers saw during the three episodes accurately portrayed who she is.

Other women weren’t so lucky, she said.

Such as Desiree, a 22-year-old Realtor from Utah who is portrayed on the show as a wild party girl.

“Truth be told, she is a sweetheart,” Matzke said.

And Lisa, the 25-year-old marketing manager from Portland, isn’t as sweet and innocent as she seems, Matzke said.

“She’s a whiz,” Matzke said. “She knew all this stuff about the show. She told me whoever went on the second one-on-one date would go home.

“She is psycho. She told us she had applied for all of these other reality shows.”

Matzke, however, hadn’t seen an episode of the show before watching herself on television.

But she said her encounter with reality television was probably enough.

“The experience I had was nothing but positive, but the producing is what got to me,” she said. “It is very scripted, and I think when you’re watching TV, anyone with half a brain can figure that out.”

Scripted moments she had to endure aired on the second episode, when she and another contestant sneaked into Borghese’s room during a cocktail party to snoop around.

That came only at the prodding of a producer, who told them the party was a little too boring.

Now, she can sit back and watch the six remaining contestants, though she already has an idea who might capture Borghese’s heart.

She’s betting on Agnese, a 24-year-old student and one of the Italian women added to the show during the first episode.

That doesn’t mean she thinks the show will necessarily end in marriage for the 34-year-old Borghese.

“It struck me when I left that all he is left with is girls younger than 25,” she said. “I think I was the last woman there.”

As for the hunt for her own prince charming, she isn’t giving up yet. And the recognition she’s getting from the show, along with three leftover formal gowns, might help along the way.

“I might just go down to Postoffice (Street) in my ball gown,” she said. “Hey, I was on ‘The Bachelor.’ I might as well milk it for all it’s worth.”
