Sally in SC

I was contacted by this shelter to help Sally, a very sweet older OES female. Can anyone help them with their vet bills and/or foster or better yet adopt Sally?

Oh poor girl :(
Oh what a sweet looking girl! Her face looks just like Chummie, but so skinny. Poor thing. I hope she gets the help she needs. :plead:

Mark took Sally to the vet today -- this is his report...

"I took Sally to the vet this morning to determine just what she was up against as far as medical treatment and here is what the vet found. Sally weighs 39 lbs and is suffering from an upper respiratory infection, a yeast infection in both ears, and she has whip and hook worms. We also tested her for heart worms and she is positive.

We started treating her today with Panacur for the worms and cleaned out her ears with Baytril and will treat with Otamax. I thought we had some at the shelter, but we didn't so I'll have to return to the vet to get some. She is also getting 100mg of doxycycline twice a day for the URI. She will also get a flea/tick bath and Frontline Plus. The money outlay so far is $88.63 plus the cost of the Otamax.

The vet said she will need to gain weight and recover from her present ailments before we can start HW treatment. I didn't get a price for this, but expect it to be in the $500 range. Anything you can do to get Sally on as many rescue sites as possible is greatly appreciated. If she gets back to relative good health and ready for the HW treatment we will be asking for donations to help cover the cost.

She is a sweet girl who must have been on her own for some time based on her matted coat, emaciation and general neglect. Once she is fit I'm sure she will make someone a great companion.

I'll keep you posted on her progress."

Mark"

Thanks for the update! I have been keeping an eye on her. I wish I had a bunch of extra funds to help. I am going to contact them though to see if I can help in fostering. I can only do this though if there if her medical costs are paid for ....I wish I could but with two sheepies already and ya kow a mortgage, its tough, and of course that she is good with other dogs....But I will see what I can do to help.....I live about 30 miles from where she is........
I have sent the rescue and Mark emails...............

I hope something can be figured out. What a sad little life for a Sheepie-girl to have. . .
I sent off a donation today for Sally's care. I hope the outcome is positive for her. GOOD LUCK SALLY!!
There is rescue dust in the air!

I just spoke to Mark, the Rescue Coordinator for the shelter that Sally is in. She is taking her medicine nicely and still is in quarantine due to her URI -- so we do not know how she is with other dogs yet.

Through the generosity of this group we have found three volunteers to foster Sally -- all live near her! I will forward their information to Mark and he will contact each of these volunteers.

There was a question about if donations be made by credit card. I know that you can make a donation on line at www.dixieoesrescue.org via Pay Pal and ear mark it for Sally's medical treatment and we can forward the money directly to her vet...

Thank you all...

Oh, I almost forgot , Mark feels Sally is probably only about 5-6 years old not the previous guess of 9-10.

I am leaving FL on Monday morning to drive to Williamsburg for the OESCA National and Rescue Parade so I will not have Internet access until the following Monday... if you need to contact me please call the phone number listed on the Dixie website

I just received the following update on Sally in SC

"Sally is looking better everyday. I received one check for $20 from a lady in Eastchester, NY and we got $4 Saturday in the SALLY Donation can. Hopefully more checks are on the way.

Her Kennel Cough is over and she seems pretty perky. She is eating well and putting on weight slowly. We will de-worm her again on Tuesday and tomorrow we will give her a tick and flea bath.

If anyone wants to donate via PayPal via the www.Dixieoesrescue.org website -- please email me and let me know you are making a donation to be earmarked for Sally. I will send the money to the Shelter for Sally's medical expenses. Thanks to this forum we have several potential foster homes lined up -- all in Sally's area -- for when she is well enough to start her Heart worm treatment.

The checks have been sent to us with no street address or PO Box which is delaying our receipt.

Thanks.

I hadn't seen this post until today and keeping Sally in my thoughts. I'd take her in a heartbeat if she wasn't so far away.

I'll send a small amount via snail mail when I get paid this upcoming Friday.

Just got home from work and found the nicest thank you note from Mark Eckels for the check I sent to help Sally. This is the first time I have ever received a personal "thank you" for a donation I've made! He also sent along a photo and asked me to give him my e-mail, so he can keep me up-to-date about how she is doing. She really looks like a sad sheepie. I will make another donation in the next couple of days. She is definitely a sheepie in need and I hope others will see fit to help her.
I wanted to update everyone on Sally to see if anyone can help out his sweet girl. I meet with Mark and Sally last weekend.. Sally is the such a sweetheart and I think she is a full OES, not a mix. She is the sweetest little thing. I was hoping to foster her until she found a furever home but after learning about the heartworm treatment and the recover steps I don't think my home is a good match. The problem I have is I have two 3 year old OES', who never stop going. Endless rough housing etc, and no quiet time. With Sally needing 30 days of quiet and rest and no excitement after her medication I don't think my house would be the best situation for her and I'd hate for anything to happen to her. My house is only 900 sq feet, and only one common area and two bedrooms. Tthere is only one room to crate her in, which is the main room of the house. I'd be too nervous of her getting excited with my dogs and people coming in and that it may cause her harm. I have offered to help foster her before her treatment if that would be helpful!. I feel bad about this decision and really wish the circumstances were different and that I could help more.

If there is anyone else in the area that can help this precious girl please let Mark know.
" Just a short update on Sally. She has recovered from most of her ailments and should be able to start the heart worm treatment soon. She is up to almost 50 lbs and only has a little problem with her left ear, so things are looking good.

We met the lady ( that is Shelly from the forum -- see her previous post) here that offered to foster Sally, but she didn't think she could keep Sally quiet during the heart worm treatment as she has two young male OESs that she feels would not leave the poor girl alone.

So we are still looking for a foster for her. If you have anyone else that expressed interest as a foster please let me know.

We have close to $600 in donations, we will probably start her treatment in the next ten days.

Hope all is well with you. Thanks again for posting Sally.

So that is great news for this little girl that came into the shelter at about 30 pounds -- I still need a quiet foster home for Sally.

Thank you all for your donations and prayers.
