Definitely he looks more like a sheepie |
The people on my Kom forum seem to think he may be one of the many Kom/Great Pyr mixes that they've been seeing a lot of in that area. Apparently, there's some guy that has been mixing those two breeds and lot of them are winding up homeless. At one year though, he seems awfully small to be that mix-- my 1 year old pure Kom is almost 130 and a Great Pyr is no runt either. The frizzy hair on the tail looks a lot like Bear's tail, though. |
From the hair it looks like there could be Poodle in him. Or Komondor. Or OES. Size wise...I would lean more towards OES/Poodle.
Maybe he is a new breed of Miniature Komondor? |
But look at those awful straight rear legs. Oh my, cruciate tears waiting to happen (she said look at Harry here beside me). With a Kom I'd expect a broader chest at a year. Pyrs vary in chest, but can be slim like this guy. Tail hold when excited could give a clue as Pyrs round their tails, but not over the spines. Sheepies tend to be straighter. I don't know about Kom tails when excited. Double dew claws are a dominate characteristic, so that would be some clue as to possible heritage. Lepoard bellies (black and white, er black and pink).....is in sheepdogs and the guardian breeds including Pyrs. Same with mouths.
Skull size and shape would give a clue. Sooo, I just don't know either. He looks wonderful and at 75 lbs, rather small |
Todd and I looked, we think it has the look of a Pyr, but mixed with something smaller.
I hope they are successful in finding him a home. He looks like a happy dog. |

The Kom tail should look like a J at rest and when excited, it lifts up high. Ears should never perk in a Kom when excited so that could be another clue. |
