When does your dog go into her first heat...
So my questions is for those who have had there pups go into heat what age did it start? She is 7 1/2 now and over 60 lbs!!!!  |

It could be anytime now. Or it could be months down the road. She is at the age were I would be expecting it any time. Hopefully you will make it through your class. Or you could schedule her spay for the day after her class and then you wouldn't miss a class. (For example, if class is on Tuesdays, schedule her spay for a Wednesday.) Most dogs are doing well enough to participate in a regular obedience class a week later. Just watch her , and don't participate in any running or jumping if it seems to be too much for her. Lots of students of mine do that and all have made it to class the next week.  |
| Dawn came in the first time at 9 months...then again at 13 months. We just gave her the after season bath last night...lol.
I agree with PP. Schedule the spay for right after the class ends. My boys give us a good week "heads up" when one of the girls is coming in. Just remember that most vets will not do the spay if she is coming in or is in season. The danger of excessive bleeding comes into play then. Best of luck! |
