Well... we get her back from the kennel, and she's making a sound like she's got to throw up (like she's trying to get something out of her throat). Nothing is coming up though. She also isn't eating all of her food. THIS IS NOT YUKI. She would eat until she had to throw up ...and THEN eat that ...if I let her. The vet said it could be kennel cough but to give it 7 days to see if it passes by itself ..........since I said she isn't coughing up anything. If she was, then she would have to come in. She's also drinking an unusual amount of water which I didn't include when I talked to the vet. I forgot. She's on benadryl (for the past 2 wks). As I said in a thread before our vacation, she just switched to Natural Balance. It's one of the hypoallergenic brands, so I guess you can say I was hopeful. We've alread decided this isn't the brand for her since she itches obsessively. Any ideas? I gave all the information I know. |

oh poor Yuki! When Panda had kennel cough, it did sound like she was hacking up a lung, but it was a true cough....she has allergies and that sounds like she is trying to huck a luggie (sorry about the reference, its the only thing I can compare it to ).....I dont have any advice, but hope she feels better soon! |
It could be kennel cough. When she coughs, smack her on both sides to help her cough be more productive, similar to when you smack someone on the back who's coughing. When Clyde had kennel cough the vet instructed us to do that and it did help him. |
Benadryl is an antihistamine and actually causes the secretions/mucous to be thicker than normal. If you think there is anything in Yuki's lungs, I would think about stopping the Benadryl.
Benadryl also makes many people/critters very thirsty. |
Quote: When she coughs, smack her on both sides lol, when I first read that...I was thinking you meant smack her in the face ...until it processed in. I kept thinking how odd that would be to do. Benadryl also makes many people/critters very thirsty. I was wondering if that could also be part of the problem. Well, we switched her food tonight, so I planned to stop giving it to her. I wanted to do a little at a time, but she refused to eat her normal food. I guess I forgot to add that lately (even before she went to the kennel) ...she's been eating this new food veryyyyyyyy slowly. She's normally an inhaler. She has never been known to be picky. Her favorite treat has always been... her dog food. So I also thought that it might be the food since she's slowly refusing it. I know it isn't wise to switch cold turkey, but I'm hoping Yuki's stomach is forgiving. She's switched many times at kennels and never had a problem. At least that's my excuse because she acted like my maltese tonight as she spit out all the food I gave her (I hand feed her) ...and only ate the new brand. |
Awww I am so sorry that Yuki is not doing well. I don't have any suggestions but I really hope you can figure out what is wrong with her. Sounds very frustrating! |
