Anyway... I'm curious if this happens to other sheepies. Should I continue to clean the dirt out? Her nails have never given her a problem and they are generally very strong. I am just concerned that the peeling could lead to something worse. She does chew on her feet a lot, but I don't think that has anything to do with her nails. |

Good question!! Panda has the same thing happen to her...I have never scraped them out...just clipped as needed....why do they get hollow? |
Just cut them |
My thoughts exactly! If you get that groove in the back, the toenails are too long. (I'm a dog toenail freak, I'm always trimming dog's toenails.) Trim down to the quick - it easy to see in the white nails, and if you trim the black ones the same as the white ones, you should be safe.
I do most of ours every 2 weeks, more often on the ones doing therapy dog visits. They need nice short nails. I can't have people getting scratches or the eldery getting skin tears. |
Yeh I never clean that out, as once they are clipped, Ollie is straight out in the garden getting muddy |
