Great New Dog toy

ok, I am the one who gave Phoebe a grape to play with. Since I found out they are a big no no for dogs, I have been on the search for a new toy she will play with.
As I mentioned before she will not play with a Kong. My office is in my home and Phoebe gets very bored when I am working for a long period of time. Once she is done being good she begins with the whinning, jumping on my lap, or waiting for me to be on the phone and starts barking.
She loves when you roll things on the floor for her, and loves small things to put in her mouth like the cat toy but I am scared she will choke. Anyway yesterday I took a drink from my water bottle. When I picked it up it made a strange crunching sound when I squeezed it. She went nuts. Once it was empty I took off the cap and the small ring around the bottle top and stuck a piece of beggin bit into the bottle. She had so much fun with it. She kept crunching it and throwing it in the air or across the room until the beggin bit fell out. She played for about 30 minutes.
The bottle becomes deformed after a while so it needs to be replaced but everyone has empty water bottles and it does not cost as much as the non destructive dog toys

My dogs love those too... even better are the 2 liter pop bottles LOL
I put kibble in them, or things like beggin strips or snausages. LOL
I never thought about the 2 liter bottles. What a great idea
Fozzie LOVES empty plastic bottles or milk cartons too. You may also want to try an ice cube if he likes it. Foz pushes and kicks them around (usually on the carpet). If you don't mind a little damp carpeting, it's fun for a bit :D
Gatorade bottles are great too. They area a heavier plastic and a different shape so it keeps their interest.
Too funny! Laika loves them also. I have a toy box and she goes in and picks a toy whenever. Guess what it is usually, a 2 litre pop bottle! Great spend money on toys she goes for the empty bottle. but she loves it!
My parent's OES, Merlin, LOVES plastic bottles too!
My yard looks like a recycling plant... both Dud and Murph LOVE plastic bottles... inexpensive way to amuse them for a few hours or days.
I think it's the noise they make. I can't wait to finish the 2 liter bottle just to see how she will get it into her mouth. Petsmart is going to loose out on lot of money from me with this one. I am a regular there since Phoebe tears apart all the toys with squeekers in them. She goes into a kill the sqeeker mode then when it stops making noise she ignores them. I don't know how she got so spoiled it ..ha ha
It seems that all of them like the bottles, mine do it too
But the moust funny thing when they are going with me to the office,
is the TRASH  And we have a lot of it at my work
(tons of paper and cardboard) They LOVES it
Paper, Cardboard!!!You are brave. If I don't shut the bathroom doors Phoebe travels whole rolls of toilet paper through the house, then tears it to small unidentifable pieces. One day I came home with three bathrooms empty of toliet paper but a house that looked like a New York ticker tape parade happened.

Sounds like my office after 2 puppis (Molly and Pirelli)
has playd there
That's so funny
Pita Just learned to play with bottles too.
We give her the gallon size water bottles with handles and she plays with them all day long. (I place a peanut butter coated freeze dried liver)

17 years ago when i first got my Bearded Collie, Dad gave her her first toy - one of his tennis ball containers - she loved it. They were the best toys and ones she always went for first out of the toy basket. The only downfall was the noise she made in the middle of the night if she woke up bored -it didn't happen all that often, but it was loud. Patch isn't all that crazy about toys in general so the tennis ball containers don't thrill her much.
Bottles have always been popular with my toy-playin' dogs. Sadly these guys aren't interested in toys. Might I suggest another toy? Try a bucket. Sam was a real bucket head, tossing and carrying around a bucket for many years before he became an "adult" dog. He was about 6 when he gave up the bucket. (He went thru many Rubbermaid buckets...they were the strongest) To get them interested in the bucket you can swirl around dog food so the smell remains inside or put some peanut butter down low so they have to put their heads deeply into the bucket. When the bucket gets caught on their head, they shake it off and eventually learn to play with it.
Great big knuckle bones, keep my boys quiet. But I like the idea of putting kibble in a plastic bottle, will have to try that one

 I never thought I'd see instructions on "How to get a bucket stuck on your dog's head"
I have to try the bucket idea. Phoebe loves toys but destroys them quickly, it has become a very expensive item on the budget. The knuckle bones are ok for a few minutes but she would rather be her hyper self and run around like a goof.

I usuall sit with one foot hanging to kick the bottle for her, that way I can type and be on the phone for work without her barking at me to do something with her
I saw on the Petsmart website a new toy that has the sound of a crunching plastic bottle. Apparently Canada doesn't carry them yet, but the U.S. does.
You can also probably get it online
:)
i am having the same problem with my pup if i give him bones he gets the runs. ice cubes work but here in fla they melt too fast
The water bottles are te best and free the way I look at it. We just throw them away. I do make sure I don't keep te top on. Phoebe does not like Gatorade, Milk, Propel bottle only water bottles but she is a spoiled brat. I found small dog cookies that don't fall out immediately. Nature Choice makes them. The bottles are keeping her busy and have turned into her favorate toy. Good luck with the puppy they are wonderful dogs
Yup, Tasker is in the bottle club!! He is a hoot to watch, he'll throw it himself then run for it.
Now that's Halloween season, don't forget to get your sheepies plastic Jack-O-Lanterns.

Our furkids go crazy with these, love to paw them and send them flying all over the house.
We are bottle failures here! I tried it - Chewie and Riley both had no interest. Next I put dog food in them. They played with them long enough to get the food out, then they ignored them. They both love playing with plastic toys,so I'm shocked they don't play with them! I have them out, will try again with food.

Still no luck. I put one in the open topped garbage can on the porch. We'll see if he likes it there. He hauls everything else out of it and plays with it  !
 Willoughby loves to play with plastic bottles. They make a lot of noise. He chews and chases them all over the garden. When we had more space and he was a puppy, I used to play with him, kicking the bottle along for him to chase. Once the bottle is flat, he loses interest. Litre plastic water bottles are great now that he's a big boy. I'll try treats in the bottle next time.
Okay, I finally tried out giving Barkley a plastic bottle to play with. I put some kibble in it to make it seem appetizing and make some noise.

He was scared of it. He ran around it jumping and barking at it. It was the funniest thing. I took video, but I'm not sure where to upload it to share it.... I'd prefer to not need to sign up for something.... I guess I'll just go join YewTewbe
I can't believe it, but ours still ignored the bottles. Go figure  .

I did just do some mending today, and put 2 of the stuffies back together with new squeekies in them and sewed legs back on. Now they loved that!
Okay I uploaded video of Barkley being afraid of his plastic bottle toy. What a goof.

(It still shows it as unavailable - so in a few minutes it's supposed to be available)
Still unavailable
Okay, it's finally available!
OMG, how funny, Chauncey loves a plastic bottle. Barkley is so adorable.
Kathy
Very funny. He is so cute. Chewie is already getting so tall :( .
You need to take the cap off, so he can smell the treats. Also,if he does decide to play, he could choke on the cap. Ours pushed them around enough to get the treats out, then ignored them. They like plastic toys too, so I'm stumped. I thought it was a good idea......
BTW, don't forget the ring under the cap.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention that! I just stuck a paring knife under it and cut it off :) .
I tried it with Fiona and she LOVES it. Our realtor was over today to sign some papers and what she saw was several empty bottles on the floor...must've thought what slob we were.
I am the proud owner of two precious MinPins -- Roz and Simon. Both dogs are rescues so I am not sure of their ages, but their vet thinks they are 3 or 4 years old, full of vim and vigor. They love to play with those plastic bottles -- they chase them across the rooms, toss them up in the air, romp across the room and jump on the bottle. For some "noise" I add a just a few grains of uncooked rice. The rice makes just enough noise to keep the dogs' interest. I will be adding kibble and crunched up milk bones to the bottles. Thanks for sharing.
