This is about my Labador Lady she is a puppy about 4-6 Months (not sure she was a stray) I might be asking dumb question's but is it normal for her to lose her teeth now (I'm not sure if she could be losing her adult teeth or puppy teeth...

thanks, James

yes, puppies lose teeth and form adult teeth just like people do. :)
Lol. I thought the same thing you did when Clyde started losing teeth. I couldn't even figure out what they were at first!
Careful what types of bones you give your pup, but certain kinds like a big smoked knuckle bone could be really good for her teeth right now!
Yes, your puppy is losing her baby teeth and getting her adult teeth. Our Chewie is 5 months and his gums are very swollen and tender. He enjoys chewing on his bones and nylabones alot. This is like a teething ring for a human baby. It is very common to see blood too.
I gave my dogs a frozen tea towel tied in a knot to chew on when they were teething. Just wet it, tie a knot and throw it in the freezer..... but stay with the pup while he/she is chewing it to make sure no peices come off that can be swallowed.
So I wanna know if I am the only "wierdo" that saved their puppies teeth? The ones I found are in a little box in my drawer
LOL... I don't think it's weird at all.... I didn't save any, but only because I didn't find any.
Yes, I have saved puppy teeth!

What is a tea towel and does it help?
I never saw any of Jasper's.
I think the US equivalent of a tea towel is a small hand towel?? But maybe not fuzzy, a smooth cotton like a dish towel. Help!

hahahahaha, yes!!!!!!!!! You could use a terry one too though I think the roughness would feel good on their sore mouths.
Yes, I meant a small towel... LOL... smooth or terry doesn't matter I don't think? I used the smooth ones...
I've just always called them tea towels...isn't that what everyone calls them?
I've not heard them called tea towels around here. I think I've only heard the term in books I've read. (I'm an avid reader!)

If they are bigger, we call them dish towels (smooth cotton, not terrycloth). If they are terry and small they are a hand towel or even a fingertip towel if they are smaller still.

What do you others call them?!
Yes, the smooth ones are the only ones we call tea towels, terry are either face cloths, hand towels etc
Oh dear, how funny, And here I was picturing a towel packed full of tea. I thought it would somehow calm and sooth the teeth. I should have realized it was just a towel because I have heard of them refered to as that before.

I think I was remembering back to one of my sisters roomates who got her ear pierced and it got infected so she went around with wet tea bags pressed to her ear. Something in the tea was supposed to help it I guess. So I was just picturing that but in a towel for the dogs to chew on.
Here it is the same, tea towel too and face cloths are Flannels.

Great advice too stacey with the tea towel for teething, never thought of something like that to help when there gums are swollen. :D
I've always called them tea towels but then I was raised in the south where everything has a "fine name" (cockroaches are called palmedtto bugs)!!!
If they have fringe running down the center, they are called

are you ready?

are you sure?

one more tease....

Here it comes....

Mr. T. towels.

Was the original question about puppies losing teeth or tea towels? :?: [/b]
Reply to our guest, really we are discussing the same thing at different angles. :D

You just have to understand us sheepies. :?:

My dogs have lost their baby teeth at different ages from three months on
my girl "Misty" was finished with her adult teeth at five months.

I always give the puppies a hoof to chew keep them of the chairs and tables.

I gave Obe a knuckle bone when he was losing his teeth. Also would freeze a carrot and let him knaw on that. I just found the vile that has two of Obe's teeth in them. I think he was around the 3-5 month age as well. As far as the towel hand/face towel
Are you guys talking about washrags / washcloths? I hope so, because that is what I wet and froze to give to Nanny. They're too small to tie into a knot though. Today we bought some specific teething toy that you can freeze for them to chew on (it's a rubber bone).

Ice cubes are good too. Nanny loves them! I'm not looking forward to finding teeth laying around everywhere. Ew! 8O Our vet told us to start brushing Nanny's teeth, to get her used to dental hygene. Maybe that is a good way to keep an eye out for what is going on in their mouth! (Just be careful, those baby teeth are sharp!!)
My 5 month old cocker is losing her teeth as well, and I am saving them all! So far, we have found 4 and I was so afraid we were not giving her enough nourishment! Glad to see this is normal. Also, I do call them "tea towels" and will try this idea! Thanks~
I am a scrapbooker, so I did keep the puppy teeth I found.
I have a Schnauzer puppy, she just turned 5 mo. Her name is Annie. I have had 3 other Schnauzer's from pups to adults but this is the first one that has lost a tooth that I have found. So I went on line to find out if puppy's loose their teeth. So I was happy to see others had the same question on this. Thanks to all who have replyed on this subject.
My 83 year old mother ran our world when I was growing up. She called it a tea towel and so did all of us. Believe me, if she called it a tea towel, IT IS CALLED A TEA TOWEL. Iowa mothers never, ever lie.
i have a Australian shepherd mix, he's 13-14 weeks old and he lost one of his teeth! i was petting him and got blood on my arm when he licked me, is this too early? it was one of his front teeth, i believe second to front.
we call them tea towels here too  .......I would have saved henry's puppy teeth but I think he swallowed them all as they fell out
I just want to say thank you for having a post on this subject. I have a pup that just turned 6 months and has lost a few teeth. I was getting very nervous till I read this. My boyfriend has saved the teeth that has fallen out. He says it's for sentilemental reasons. So thank you for all who have answered the question.
Tell him to put them under the doggie bed so the tooth fairy can find them! ;)

Glad we helped.
I too was concerned after seeing my mini schnauzer pick up something white on the carpet. She is nicknamed Hoover since everything imagineable gets in her mouth. I picked up the white object to see it was a little tooth. I did become anxious and went online to find out. Puppies are like little kids...they lose their baby teeth to make way for the canines. I have given her the puppy 'dentabones" since she was 4 months old as she chewed shoelace ends to puncturing my flip flops. She really enjoys these dentabones. Today in her waterbowl, I see another tooth. I have saved them, since she is my little baby. Husband thinks me nuts. But, she makes me laugh and is a wonderful little companion. So, losing baby teeth, natural progression from puppyhood to adult.

Dahlia is losing teeth! She has no bottom front teeth anymore and she already lost the top. She looks very funny with no teeth and then little adult nubs poking through. Poor baby. She is extra nippy and crazy right now. We did find one of the teeth today and she got blood all over her favorite stuffy..... Mr. Sheep.
My baby is growing up :go:
My little female Jack Russell mix puppy has lost quite a few of her baby teeth so I am glad that I read this post!!! :yay:
Am I the only one who has yet to see a single puppy tooth? Other than solidly in the puppy's mouth that is? And then suddenly, wush, they're gone :-)

I remember our vet telling us that we wouldn't see Pru's puppy teeth cause the puppies usually swallow them...then...now we have 3! :clappurple:

Michael will have to post about Pru's puppy kindergarten tooth find  ...let's just say she stopped the entire class over a baby tooth coming out..

I love that I have her little teeth to keep

Apparently.

I even had one of Chewie's little premolars saved (setting on the dryer) and Todd threw it away! He thought it was stupid to save a puppy tooth, as it's so common....
Mady lost her first tooth in my brother's foot! I have two of Gracie's. I did keep them but, hey, we don't have human kids so I figure it is ok to get sentimental about our furkids. I keep hoping Gracie will make a paw print drawing in puppy kindergarten...
Bloo has all his big teeth now, but i havent found one of his baby teeth! I really wanted to keep some as a keepsake but i never managed to find one! I think he swallowed most of them LOL :P
I have 4 of Laylas saved. I may have checked her mouth 8 times a day when she was teething to look for loose teeth, haha.
I thought everyone called them tea towels too. I guess it's the British influence here in Canada. A tea towel is the towel you use to dry your dishes after you wash them.
Yup, we call them tea towels too. It is hard to find the old school kind, the white cotton ones that look like they were from flour sacking.

And here I thought they were something the English use to wipe up their tea after their OES spill it for them. Live and learn. ;-)

Not a term that is used in the US to the best of my knowledge.

It must have something to do with the War of 1812, when we each went our own way. 200 years later and we still use those British expressions. When we aren't using those French expressions!
